"Go back one page" problem in FF

I've noticed in firefox that it's taking more than one click of "back" button on my mouse or the backspace key for a page to go back.

The forward keys are fine and work straight away, but the back keys take 3 or 4 tries before jumping back a page.

This is happening on two different laptops one with xp and one with vista, both on the latest Firefox version.

Any ideas?
