hello all! havent' been about for a while due to having operations on both my wrists, but it now seems my rig needs upgrading!... (its amazing what 8 months can do to ya 3dmark score... :p  )

currently running - amd64 x2 4600 (socket am2), 2gb geil memory, bfg 8800gtx, creative xfi fatal1ty sound card, on an asus M2N32-Sli deluxe

im assuming the K10 won't be socket AM2, so should i go intel C2D, or wait for the k10 and upgrade accordingly?... or should i just whack an amd64 fx62 in as they're only 170 squids nowadays? or is the fx62 outdated itself?...

any help and opinions appreciated...

Soul.

personaly i would go for the intel, as you get so much for little money.
am sure some 1 wil spec you a nice intel pc up.

I'd wait 2 weeks and check out the X38 boards whch are apparantly out around the 9th September. Then couple one of those with a Q6600. The rest of your system is great.

cheers for the replies all...

running on a 19'' samsung syncmaster 940bf, which i bloody love! its an awesome monitor...

mainly going on what i've been told about crysis and gears of war... and when i loaded graw 2 it defaulted to a medium high setting with anti aliasing off! (which annoyed me somewhat...) it plays fine on high, although i may have to invest in a physX card, cause it struggles like **** if i whack physX to extreme. im thinking thats not a good sign for future game releases...

also made the mistake of buying the 8800gtx the day it was released for £500, when you can get the oc'ed version for under £300 now... my own fault for not waiting a bit, i suppose.

Wait two weeks, the Intel and AMD announcements should bump everything else down a price notch hopefully. Even if you end up buying today's gear you should get more for your cash.

The 8800gtx is still a monster mate. I wouldn't worry what games default you to, obviously they aren't very accurate :)

Only issue is AMD are only gonna announce the Opertons for workstations, not the desktop versions ie the chips we want those maybe due much later on this year which makes AMD not even an option... thats whats being hinted/rumoured at the moment.

I think AMD missed the point and 2007 hasnt been there year at all, im gonna go Q6600 + X38 provided I can hold on another 2 weeks !

What sort of overclock are you able to get out the 4600? If you can get anywhere near 3ghz you'd surely be able to drag it out another couple of months?
Everyone loves the waiting game...
