Im getting a new rig sometime this month, im not sure whether to go for vista or not. Im going to be using it for everday needs like internet, msn, downloading certain stuff etc, but also quite a bit of gaming, is there any point in vista yet? as i think it looks a great OS but apparently gaming is pretty poor on it atm.

thanks

I would say yes, go for Vista. It is the new OS and will get more popular with game makers etc.

Funnily enough you are not the first person to ask this, in recent weeks... so you would do best to read through existing Vista threads here to get your answer.

If you are building a new rig i would say definitely go for Vista. I have a PC with this spec:

AMD 3500 Venice
2 Gig Geil Ram
160G Hard Drive
Pioneer DVDrw
7600 GS 256mb Graphics Card
Corsair 520w PSU

Vista Ultimate 32-bit installed the other day and all stable and working like a dream. Very happy indeed. Just check out people's views on this and other forums. If you go for 64-bit then you might get some problems with drivers etc. I had no problems with my 32-bit version.

Gaming will get better over the next few months when the graphics drivers and patches come out in favour of Vista.

Wait. Until the 2nd generation DX10 GPU's arrive and then get vista with your new rig.

If you buy a DX9 card, get XP. And if you get XP, might as well get the OEM. I reckon there will be a good discount on XP OS right now. Can't see many people going for it.

If you are getting a new Rig, Get Vista, I'm running it on the spec in my sig, and it's fantastic, I'm guessing you are buying something a little beefier than that. :p
