picking up a gopro 4 hero black later today from a buy and sell type listing was originally intending to buy new but one of the lower models but thought id give this a go instead

memory question though, i know the gopros have been mentioned as corrupting footage or freezing etc with slow cards but is it essential to buy the pro / extreme etc branded cards?
would rather have a few slower cards for the capacity than one expensive fast one

i see the samsung evo 64gb on a well known site for approx £15 would these cards be ok to use ?

thanks

The standard Evo probably won't be fast enough, it's only ~48mb/s and the Hero4 Black goes up to 60mb/s.

It'll probably be fine if you're only using 1080p/2.7k and not using Protunes (and on older models) but if you want to get the most out of the 4 Black you'll need a faster card.

I use Sandisk Extreme, they're much more expensive but I've never had a problem with them shooting 4k with Protunes on.

As above. I've got one of those cards for my 4 black, and it's fine up to 2.7k. For consistent recording 4k, you'll need to use one of the faster cards. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Best quality is 2.7k medium anyway - 4k is still a gimmick on these cameras.

cheers for the advice guys im now a little unsure what to do though i was going to grab three of those other cards however ive seen this
SanDisk Extreme 64 GB microSDXC UHS-I U3 Card with SD Adapter upto 90 MB/s Read, FFP
in the description write speed is up to 40MB a sec this would be more suitable i presume approx £25 for the same capacity

4k isnt a deal breaker really as long as 1080p is good and reliable as its for sending off with my much younger sister on a sking trip and lots of 1080p footage is preferred to a little 4k

also i might start another thread if i dont get answers here but are those accessory kits any good? ive seen some on the same site in the region of £20-£30 some of which say reduced from in the region of £100 with lots of various mountings etc as with the sking trip its mainly the chest mount that im after and have seen these on their own for not far off the same price
are these kits up to scratch or just cheap dirt that will fail? any names to look for over the others?

thanks again people

If you're using it on a skiing trip you'll want Protunes on to get the most out of the dynamic range... and that means a higher class card.

2.7k Superview @ 50fps with Protunes on will get you about an hours shooting per 32gb - that's all you're likely to get out of a battery too. 1080p at the same settings will get you around 80 minutes per 32gb.

The Hero4 Black absolutely eats batteries too. In cold weather it'll only be worse. Get a few Smatree ones with their dual charger - they're cheap and work just as well as the official GoPro batteries.

As for accessory kits, it depends what you want. Some things it'll be fine to buy cheap, other bits I'd want to go with a known quality and get the official stuff. If you're skiing you'd probably want a helmet mount (official), selfie stick (cheapo) and harness (official).
