Go sober for October!

Great thread Diddums. I'm new around here but I already see a lot of you guys are regulars here and have a little community. I am proud to be apart of it and hopefully get to know some of you lot a bit more :)

Thank you sir and welcome to the forum. There are loads of mini communities on here, I've met a fair few and there are tons I haven't met but there are the PC guys, the console guys, the car guys, the bike guys, etc. It really is a great bunch. I should probably organize a meet at some point, @Maccy's been nagging me for ages.

I put my one up the other day in preparation, not expecting to get anything until October or at least a few days/week into it. Somehow hit my original 'goal' by the next morning. So I better take it seriously and commit! Never done anything like this myself either so thought i'd give it a go;

My birthday is in October, and I can count on one hand the number of days I drink alcohol in a year. So no, I won't be stopping.

I was already tea total in September, August, July, June, April, March and January.

I don't have a drink problem where I have to give up drink, but on the other hand I do like a drink when I go out. I'm going to a gig this week where I will enjoy a few pints while out, plus a possible mini staff night out next weekend with a few from work.

One thing life had taught me after losing immediate family to cancer at a young age is that time waits for no one and you have to enjoy life when you have the opportunity to do so.

You should organise one some time in October.

Well, three days in and the two members who've signed up (myself and Thekwango) have managed to raise £40 between us. It's not too late to join in, so if you're up for it or area already teetotal, join us and make your lifestyle choice count for something extra :)

All donations are of course for a fantastic course and greatly appreciated by not only us, but the wonderful people helping and supporting those affected by cancer and most importantly, cancer sufferers themselves.

Come on folks, one pint less at the pub is a few quid extra for this excellent cause, so get donating!

To be honest I find the notation of being sponsored to not drink for a month is completely ridiculous but well on the the people getting charity some money. I would be interested in sponsoring certain members on here so they can't post for a month, I imagine a few would have rather high sponsorship. :D

Oh make no mistake, when I also heard of it I was all WTF  but at the end of the day it's something to help out a good cause, and I have no issues helping. Might grow some bumfluff for Movember too

I'm sure there are a few of us on here who have been affected by the big C in some form or another and MacMillan are a fantastic charity who offer help and support to those affected, and abstaining from the sauce for a month is a great easy and healthy way to show your support. If you're teetotal already, then it's even easier, simply sign up, make a page and start raising some money!

To make things interesting, I'm inviting all to participate and tracking progress, and whoever raises the most money will be given a £20 OCUK voucher :)

So get cracking folks, a month isn't hard and it's for a great cause.

What's your excuse?

Participants (click name for page):

Diddums - Raised - £25
Thekwango - Raised - £15

EDIT:

If there's enough interest on here I'll start an OcUK team too :)

Great Idea, Doesn't Work.

Seems to work perfectly well. There's 40 quid raised already. Granted it's not an earth shattering amount but it's 40 more quid than would have been raised had those taking part not bothered.
