Looking good.... No.1 spot in producers chart will soon be ours :D

Plus, on the upside, i got my loan today to pay for my wedding next year... But there's a grand going spare that the other half has let me loose with :D

Will be ordering 2x new Q6600's on monday with 2 of these :-

Clicky

To replace my fried x2 3800, and retire my xp2200+ (86ppd!)

Does anybody know if the DFI board is any good ? Cracking price and have read some good reports on the net about it.

It's a very good board, but won't clock the Quads too well as it's the older P965 chipset.

What would you recommend as a good board for running the quads in ? Will be wanting them clocked to iro 2.8ish with AC Freezers.

Needs to be a sensible price as will just be crunchers.

The DFI will get a Quad to 2.8ghz no problem. The P965 chipset usually craps out at 335-345mhz when running a Quad, so they can get a Q6600 to about 3ghz. My old P965 Gigabyte DS3 managed 2.98ghz.

Grr, somebody stop team Snapsh0t :p I don't want to be stomped :(

I've no more power, even the Secretaries have been reborged.

Hope Mr Millions has a load of numbers spare - he's in the danger zone too ;)

I keep getting grief off the other half about the amount of time/money i spend "tinkering" in the spare room with my pc's... People also tend to think im a bit barking for spending money on pc's just for folding, but hey, its my hobby :)

They way i see it, i could be down the pub getting lashed every night, spending £100+ over the weekend on beer and kebabs. But i don't, instead i spend a few hundred quid every few months upgrading bits and bobs.

+ its more comfy to sit in my own living room (being able to smoke) and get lashed there instead lol

bit off-topic... im rambling again.. :D

Are you BigStan in disguise - he was our last mega home farm builder :D

Problem is not just the money for the PCs, it's the leccy bill as well - still you probably don't need heating in winter :D

lol @ MGP - No, im not BigStan heard good things about him thou ;)

Heat is a big issue, was in homebase today looking at Air Conditioners.. They have a suitable one for £80, but they cost a bomb to run ~1.6Kw

To be honest, the GPU folding rig chucks out the most heat by a long shot. Its a presshot P4 3.2 HT running an x1950pro + 1 console client with a 420w PSU. It creates as much heat as the Quad and the E6600 to together :(

I keep meaning to get one of those Wattage measuring plug sockets you can get from ******s, as i dread to think how much power the whole lot draws

As for the leccy bill.... over the summer its costing me iro £110 per month with Scottish power. As for the winter, with my flat being all-electric, i don't like to think about it! lol

**** EDIT ****

Why won't it let me type the 'M' word ? you know, the place thats like RS...

Have the p35 boards overtaken the 975's for quad overclocks?
not been keeping up to date - as would just cause me heartache due to lack of pennies :(

@ITR - just noticed that 'team' snapsh0t was top of the charts, nice bolt-on booster rockets you've donated there

Yep heat is a killer. My own 5mx5m office has one of them Homebase aircon units running 24/7 for around 6 months of a year, perhaps the server running folding throws out a tad too much heat ;)

I will probably have to deborg the secretaries again - allready I've had complaints about why they are so noisy, but what do you expect from a well known mail order company of desktops. Still they are only P4 3.0 HTs, and despite 14 of them, it's only going to give me an extra 1500PPD ish, not really enough but to delay the inevitable Snapsh0t stompage. On the other hand once his 14 day "prize" ends, maybe I have a chance to regain the lost ground?

I really need a quad core :(

You'll have about three weeks before my borgs come back on line but they're not much more than your secretarties. Same manufacturer too apart from the two IBMs. I need a quad too.

Ah, that GPU folder explains the strange results I've been seeing in our output. Did you notice the two units that gave 0 points on Friday? Yeah, the 'blue shirt' shop is considered a competitor, just like the 'purple shirts'.

Get folding, team 10. Have you seen the speed at which DL.TV is catching us? 375,000PPD and the top three team members are crunching 35,000, 20,000 and 15,000PPD!

Are you sure this is air con not a chiller? Seems v cheap. I have a 13,00BTU & is noisy but only uses 1.2Kw p/hr

I wish I could get a quad:( Thinking about waiting until G0 stepping & 45nm are released - about 3 months?

£80 is very cheap for an A/C unit exspecially one that could have a hope in hell of coping with the amount of heat a GPU can kick out.

I have a 10k BTU odd one thats 900 watts.

Im fairly sure it's an air con unit, not an Air Cooler... It did seem cheap to me tbh, the next one up was £180... I'll pop back in and check when i get the time :)

That's it, I officially throw in the towel. There is no way I'm going to hold off Snapsh0t. :(

Just had to shut down the lappy as it got hacked - poxy corporate antivirus is useless, and not knowing what that compromised - I know some stuff has been hacked, have shut down the borged network while I work my way round it all.

I will be back, but in the shortterm it's a feeble E6600 that's left to hold the fort.

Sorry to hear that, Rob. Do you know how someone got in? Presumably there's a corporate firewall that would keep out direct intrusions but did some clown run a trojan from an email?
