Is there a forum "go to" for checking a car's history before spending time travelling to look at it ? From a quick google there seem to be several at around the tenner mark (RAC, Green Flag etc) or pay ~25 for something more detailed.

We're looking to spend around ~8K mark for "something" that would be a cheap-but-not-utter-cack runabout for my oldest.

Have used car vertical myself its a bit pricey i think but it did bring up a lot of information on my car, but i feel its not 100 accurate On a section for has this vehicle been used as a taxi or emergency services vehicle I got a NO repsonse but If i look carefully at my car there are a couple of screw holes on the drivers side centre console at ankle level where a previous owner has fitted some kind of unit and also in the rear bumper I have 4 screw holes that would indicate a rear plate of some kind has been fitted. As with anything its a guide but best use the MK1 eye ball and read up on the car you are buying for common faults and ask the owner if they ahve experienced these and if they have have they been fixed with relavant paper work showing ther repair.

Update Just did the vcheck and that has flagged up my car was used as a taxi and this was on the basic 2.99 check, not overly worried myself with the use as a taxi becasue from the time it was sold from a private owner in 2019 to the time I bought it in 2022 it had only done 10K extra

Helps vcheck is a UK company designed to be accurate for the UK market. They aren't wasting loads of money paying youtubers.

Carvertical is a jack of all markets, master of none. I also don't care that my car hasn't been registered stolen in the US or Serbia.

If you do use Car Vertical there are loads of ways to get a discount (YouTubers sponsored "deal", etc.) but it is very expensive for something which is hit and miss whether it has more information than Vcheck.

vcheck it is then !

Thank you all. I'd seen carvertical and that was the one charging £26, so saved £16 by asking here as it doesn't seem to offer anything more.

It's also interesting they (carvertical) are one of the few that don't even give a data guarantee. What are they even charging for. The others are charging money, basically as insurance.

Use the code AC50 and it costs £9.95 for 5 checks, it's ok for a basic check with no frills, not as good as vcheck.
