Go Tri or start again?

The GX2 sounds an excellent card mate and gets great reviews, however I had a good think about this last night and thought.....

Well I bought the X2 for £300 a couple of months ago and I'd be lucky to get anywhere near £200 for it second hand. For £112, I can get a 3870XT which will certainl make a considerable difference to performance and when it comes to getting rid of that, I won't have lost as much cash.

Probably a mad way of looking at it, but do I NEED the latest when these cards only a couple of months ago were supposed to be the best thing ever. PC's are one of the biggest money pits going and you can bet that in 6 months time, the cards that are about to be released will be classed as old and slow;)

Anyway, you can prob guess from this, that I took the plunge this morning and ordered my XT. Hopefully it should last me 12 months with the X2 combined!

from what I've seen you'd be lucky to get a game to run with 3 cards let alone get a decent increase in anything other than 3dm but happy benching nontheless ;)

there's quite a large spread in cpc about multi gfx solutions. Granted its not the bible of everything but there's been a fair amount of reviews etc that show very little/no benefit to 2 card solutions and even less at 3 and 4.

I guess its game dependant but still, could wind up being a pricey way of getting very little extra.

Plus you just bought a new gfx card literally 3 weeks before new parts come along and presumably trash the new and 2nd hand value. Could you not have waited?

so you're saying sell now, be without a grfx card for a couple of weeks and then assume that the new ones will be substantially better and less than £300 to get something twice as quick as my X2?

I've read the CPC article and always respect their reviews, which was infact one of the catalysts in reviewing my existing setup. But you have to understand, to loose over £100 by selling my card now and then forking out again on something we know nothing about yet, is semi barking.

Btw, here's an article from Anatech, which again is supposed to be a reliable source.
Tri-xfire doesn't come out too bad.

no not at all, I'm saying wait until the new ones come and and wreck the second hand value of the current cards and pick up a 2nd hand 3870 off someone who is daft enough to buy a new one :)

tbh I just want to be able to game smoothly at 1920x1200 will everything turned on. Is that too much to ask for? Apparently yes

just add another hd3870x2 for instant gaming beauty i play at that ;)res with all game maxed out .there isint really a game out there that can really test theses cards maybe crysis full everything on very high and maybe farcry 2.i will be skipping the next gen card intill theres a games to say you need to upgrade.

I hear you.

Just couldn't stretch myself the extra. But as Matt100 said, there should be a nice array of X2's going cheap over the coming months, so who knows what the future brings!
