As the title says, for a PC that only will be used for gaming in 1080p with a 3060 Ti, would it be smarter to wait for the 11th gen i5? I mean, the current i5 10600k is not that far behind the 5600x in gaming, so the new one will most likely beat, hopefully at a lower price. Also, here in Sweden the 5600X is completely sold out and will probably not be able to get before the mid or end of februari, and then the 11th gen is probably only a month away from release. So what do you guys think?

I don't know how well 11th gen will stack up so you're probably better off with Zen3 or 10th gen if you want it now. The 11900k is only going to have 8 cores so seems like they're struggling to scale the old architecture without creating house fires.

becoz if your current system is intel, going ryzen means new motherboard. As if u stay intel u can get cpu only.
in the end of a day both amd and intel will go new sockets soon.
so if u want to save money stay intel. u will get bigger electric bills (apperantly ppl think it breaks the bank) but u dont need new mobo. amd performance is better yes but no way u will be behind wit intell chip. avalability and price is a new benchmark. performance benchmark is soooo last year.

That is true, it's around 85$ cheaper here to, but since they're motherboards don't have PCIe 4.0 it's not as futureproof, right?

Then maybe it's best to run with the 10600k and buy a good after market cooler for the 100$ i'll save from not going with the 5600x, then i'll be able to run it at 4,8 ghz and it will probably perform as good or better as the stock 5600x. Also, is it correct that the current z490 motherboards will support the 11th gen? The motherboard i'm looking at is MSI MPG Z490 GAMING EDGE WIFI.
it does seem that the z490 will support the 11th gen Rocket Lake and that would be the last supported CPU on z490.
Unfortunately they used a mid range GPU
it's probably more indicative of someone who would buy a mod range cpu but it bottlenecks the 5600x so it can't stretch its legs
I have another question while i'm at it! I've never overclocked a cpu before and my plan is to bring my 10600k up to 4.8 ghz, and i wonder, does this decrease the life time of the CPU and should a Noctua NH-U12s be enough to cool it? Also, which memories do you recommend for this? Is a pair of Corsair 3200 CL16 enough or should i aim for something faster, like the G.Skill ripjaws 3600 CL16?

I've personally decided to pull the trigger on 5600x (upgrade from ancient i5-6600k). I already have 3060 Ti.
I expect this system to last until 2nd or 3rd iteration of CPU's supporting DDR5. I might change the GPU, but ultimately I do not think ANY of the current gen hardware will last longer.

It should be a solid upgrade over the 6600K, if you plan to upgrade in 2 or 3 years then I'd go for a cheaper motherboard, Im rocking a B450 tomahawk + 5800X with an RTX 3080 and gaming performance is just as good as on a much more expensive X570/B550 no PCIe 4.0 but will be upgrading again long before that matters for gaming.

Whatever the OP gets will most likely be end of life for the socket/platform, so I would personally go with the Intel if it's cheaper. Other option is to wait for the 11 series to actually come out and see if AMD responds with a price drop.
It’s real shame considering the strides they have making. The high prices of the 5000 series stopped me from upgrading. Supply issues are a contributing factor with demand outpacing supply up to now.
Prices are slowly coming down now and availability is picking up, what is think is most disappointing with zen 3 is the lack of the 5600 non X and 5700X chips that would have replaced the 3600/3700X in the more budget friendly pricing segment instead we got replacements for the 3600X and 3800X which were always poor value but then with another 50 quid tacked on.
