Hi, i'm a keeper in my last year of school (nearly 18).

Past month or so i've not been able to save anything! Not played for a few months prior, so it's understandable, but i'm literally letting them roll past me!

What's going on, and anyone got any tips to resolve this?

OR tips in general? :D

Sorry, everyone here is only familiar coaching Premiership teams. You won't find anyone useful for your lowly playground dilemma here. :p

I just threw myself into it more. Overcompensate a little perhaps. May feel like you're overdoing the simple saves but if you're even screwing those up it can't be a bad place to start?

Is it reflexes or concentration that you feel is letting you down?
Might be worth just getting a mate to go out and hit a variety of shots at you for a while, let you practice the basics out of a match situation.

Sounds like you are spending too much time thinking about making the save, and then beating yourself up when you let it in.

Stop that, just relax and be more instinctive. Every goalkeeper goes through a bad patch, just don't worry about it.

After playing as a keeper for last 12 years or so (since high school) my first suggestion would be make sure your tehnique and form and spot on.

Keep your concentrations and don't let mistakes bother you too much, if you concede get up and move on as it will just work against you if you get angry or think about it too much.

I had that last week. I hadn't played for about a month and we must've played pretty much the worst team in the league and i think they probably scored with about 80% of their shots and some of them were horrific (luckily they were as bad as me in general so we still won!)

I found that last week i was a bit better than the previous week and i imagine that this week i'll get some form back again.

As said above just get a mate to spend a couple hours taking pot shots at you down a local park to get you back into it.

Ok, thanks for the tips everyone :)

Will try and get some practice in :D

Oh, and i'm about 5'10, can dive to top/bottom corners without too many issues.

Seems i can save the hardest shots, but miss the easy ones!

I guess it's just a practice thing :D

Go play catch

The basic's to goalkeeping, hand / eye can be improved doing that :)

Or at least mix that in with training.

It's all about the angles and trying to keep the correct distance from goal. Your problems are probably just a lack of concentration, especially as you are letting the easy ones in. ;)

Confidence. That and you need to stop over-thinking your saves, just let yourself react, rather than think about what you're going to do.

This -----^

Try to be postitive and be confident in yourself. Concentration is key. Mental toughness too. It's not easy being a keeper.

The more you think about the negative stuff the worse it will be.

Been a keeper since I was 8, now I'm 42 LOL and have just gone back to playing 11 a side league football after 4 years out after major knee surgery.
