This is ****ing ******* me off now almost every time i try and join a server on COD4 i get that then it buggers up the internet for a few mins (page's wont load) have to close the game and try again till it works on about the third attempt :mad:

I've set connection atempts to 99 while i went to make a sandwich and it still didn't get through. Why can't they put a cancel button on the connect screen/?

I had the same issue until I tweaked the connection timeout to 30 seconds and that solved it

try a diferent server. make sure it isnt running mods.

download this http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php and update your pb for cod4. youll have to add it in. then search for updates. also check your firewall settings as i had some issues with it saying punkbsterA and stuff.

This is how mine always is - the best way around it (I found) is to add the servers to your favourites and only show the favourites - instant auth. and join.

Is there a way in COD4 to join a server via its IP address? I cant find anywhere to type it in!

bring down the console with the tilde key (`) then type /connect ip or if the server has a password type /connect ip; password blah

e.g. /connect 85.236.101.99:29360 - dignitas TDM server

/connect 85.17.181.2:28910; password ocuk - for a passworded server

Also has the OP tried typing /reconnect in the console when the key auth issue comes up? This can help recitify the problem

Had the same issue. one restart solved it.

Usually only happens to me when i update the game or when i haven't played in a while.

I had it for a while, just went away eventually. I think it might be down to your ISP as on 20Mb virgin at uni it takes a lot longer to connect than my 512k at home which is instant
