I was hoping this phase would have finished by now, but it seems since 2006/2007 all of the big names now either fall into one of two categories; Trance or Minimal.

Ive listened to electronic music since I was 13, nothing else, just electronic (Im now 27). Ive gone through all the scenes such as house, trance, electro, techno etc etc.

I eventually realised techno was the genre for me, from the Detroit legends such as Jeff Mills and Kevin Saunderson right through to the harder European scene championed by Umek, Kanzyani, Marco Bailey et al. Also listened to the better produced sounds from the headliners such as Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, Prodigy etc

Im at a loss. Ive been watching countless videos on Youtube of all the names I know, I just cannot find a genre I like anymore

I suppose Minimal does sound good in a big room with plenty of reverb, but on headphones or a home system it just sounds god awful. I need some music for my weight lifting sessions and nothing is doing it for me :(

Trance - I dispise now. I was really into it back in 1999-2003 but now just find it cheesy, repetitive engineered droll. It has no soul, despite its namesake.

Is this just me or am I not alone? Death to minimal, get off the damn bandwagon and get back to your roots I say.

/rant.

CLASSIC: Slam - Positive Education (Soma)

The Big Man: Kevin Saunderson, feel the soul and passion in this set...

Pete Yorn etc (folk rock / contemporary folk) that kind of stuff is my fav alternative to the headliners. You got Spotify?

love you OP. proper techno ! cant stand minimal whatsoever either. awful at home , awful in clubs.

could spend all night writing about techno classics but can probably sum it all up with
dave clarke and his red series. , wisdom to the wise and protective custody etc.

acid house is another genre i will never bore of . its starting to make a little comeback atleast

Yeah I hate it as well, cheesy and no sould, but Im an old hardcore boy, deep dark yet uplifting is how I like it best..
Shame really, as no-one has done that in ages. :D

wouldnt call it cheesy whatsoever. most of it is just so boring. been to a few minimal nights and just dont 'get' it at all. sounds like the same track for 2 hours too me. and i like to think i usually have an open mind about such things
