My PC was restarting after Win 7 updates last night and just after I'd logged into the machine I disconnected the Ipod. The PC had been on beforehand and just had downloaded Podcasts and synced with the Ipod.

Just after disconnecting it iTunes throws up an error message (can't rememeber exactly what it said) so I reconnected the iPod and guess what? It re-synced and half of the Ipod music is gone, all my podcasts too. They are still in the iTunes folder though but for some reason the program isn't recognising them, but it is other music files in there.

Do I have to "Add folder to Library" for each of the missing albums and podacast?

I can't even sync my iPhone with iTunes/Win 7 anymore, I have to use my other laptop with XP on it for it to be a success.

Basically in Win 7 my iPhone was never recognised so every time I connected it I had to restore it!

On XP works great. I know this solves nothing from your side, but hey :D

Again, I know this doesn't answer your question, but tell me, are you obliged to use iTunes with an iPod? I have a Creative Mozaic and it's just plug-and-play with the good ol' Windows Explorer.

There is a way, hold on 2 secs

If you go to "C:\Users\<username>\Music\iTunes\" there should be a couple of files.

iTunes Library (Damaged).itl
iTunes Library.itl
iTunes Music Library.xml
Library.xml

Providing you've got all of them, you should be ok. Try deleting "iTunes Library.itl" and then rename "iTunes Library (Damaged).itl" to "iTunes Library.itl".

Nope!.. Winamp with the mlipod.dll plugin, not sure if the built in iPod plugin works with the iPhone, but I know the mlipod.dll plugin does!!

I think songbird works with the iPhone, and not sure about monkeymedia

Not had a single problem with Windows 7 and my iphone or my ipod.

Thought of doing a fresh clean install of W7 + itunes ? :)

Better having to re-add the folders than losing the files alltogether though.

There is a restore from backup option if you right-click on your ipod in itunes but not sure what that'll restore and it might've just backed up the last sync you made.

You can check the backup date by going to Edit > Preferences > Devices

Didn't itunes give you the option of copying back files from your ipod that were now missing from itunes or is that only for purchased content?

More info on the backups here:

Tried this and when iTunes restarted it threw up another error message and rebuilt the database creating another (Damaged) library.....and I'm back to square 1!

There is about 10Gb of music showing in iTunes, but the iTunes folder is 63Gb in size, so there is a ton of music and podcasts missing. They are in the iTunes folder but the program won't see them!?

Will look into other programs......

The reason why I don't like iTunes (and WMP) is that it catalogues your music to deep-rooted locations on your hard disk. I prefer to use the ol' Explorer, create a master directory called "MP3" or suchlike, then make a sub-directory for each album that you rip. I use Infra Recorder to rip then Winamp to play. Both progs are portable, so if I reformat and keep the portables on another partition, I don't have to fap about going through configs again because the configs are already there in .ini files.

I find that I have to double click on playlists/iPhone/apps on the left hand bar and it sometimes takes a few seconds to load the icon.

Other than that, fine for me

This thread is just another reminder why I haven't bought a device that restricts how I can get to my own content.
