Went for a drive on a dual carriageway - there was a police 4*4 with big flashy sign stuck to its back (think it said police or something) and looked like it had some sort of camera sticking out of the window (not sure)... I was in slow lane and was doing around 76 - 78mph..

Do these stop people?
Do these take photos?
Am I likely to have have anything to worry about?

God I really am getting super paranoid........

probably just a mobile speed camera, could have been an anpr one too.
They wouldnt have chased you, just take a photo and send you out a letter in a wee while if you have been caught.

I wouldnt worry about it, unless anything comes in the post.

I suspect it was a laser hair removal system. I'd have a look in the mirror if I were you for hair falling out and pube reduction. It usually takes a couple of days but if they have lasered you then its only a matter of time.

As soon as you chose to break the law by going over 70 you gave yourself something to worry about.

And before anyone flames me, I also regularly exceed the speed limit. I risk assess each situation as it comes and decide whether the probability of being caught and the potential consequences are worth it.
If I think I might have been caught I won't be moaning about it on the internets.

I have a mate who's a traffic cop, they sit there in those 4x4's with the laser guns racking up points. Him and his partner see if they can get over 100 on one sitting (usually a few hours). You've definately been got, unlucky :(

You'd be very unlucky to hear anything more about this.

According to national guide lines, police officers should allow a margin of 10%+3 before enforcing a penalty for exceeding the speed limit. Realistically, you'd have to be doing circa 80+ to actually get prosecuted.

Even if you do get a notice of intended prosecution, due to the fact that you were within 10 MPH of the speed limit, you should get the option of paying the £60 fine, and going to a speed awareness course rather than taking the points on your license.

I used to worry about this all the time when I first passed my driving test, as a result I never used to exceed the speed limit. I still have the same attitude to this very day.

Child killer! :(

As much as you keep saying god, he can't help you here!

I've been gotten once and that was by a mobile scamera/van, just down to luck really.

Those guidelines were abandoned years ago.

If the police vehicle is moving and they want to do you, then they'll pull you over - it's that simple. NIPs are sent out after getting you with a static camera.
