Godfather

From what someone told me a month or two back it will be much less linear than Mafia, with more of an open-ended approach to missions and a persistent gameworld which is affected by what takes place. Very ambitious but I'd be delighted if they can pull it off, as personally I thought Mafia was overrated - a good story can't make up for the lack of true gameplay and freedom.

called me old fashioned but i like the fact it was structured. i remember loosing interest in GTA 3 cause you could just do anything. plus mafia had some really good shoot outs and nice gfx.

Well the rigid structure was necessary for the telling of the story, but it felt a bit too much like you were always being pushed in one direction. Some of the missions were also a bit rubbish and frustrating since you couldn't do anything else until you completed them.

Never ;) . Mafia was the best game i've played and one of the few i still go back and play consistently. It's just dripping with atmosphere; the cars, the music the clothes and the detail that went into the entire map puts the GTA games to shame. What makes the enviroment even more impressive is it's really only intended as a backdrop and a setting to a story. And what a story. Great cut scenes, good dialogue and impeccably acted. Each set piece is memorable....and i'll stop now as i'm wildly off topic :D I just can't think of Mafia without gushing ¬_¬.
I saw a video for The Godfather a few months ago and it looked pretty awful. Very consolised with auto aiming and poor textures. I'm not holding out much hope for it.

The biggest problem seems to be, IMO, is that its developed with consoles in mind...so graphics are below par, combat seems to be designed around joypads...

Can't see it competing with Mafia IMO...but we'll see :)

Its like a lot of things really, sequels are never as good as the original because the original was fresh and new, whereas the sequel seems to either repeat it or be not as good as you had hoped.

I don't think "Godfather" is supposed to be a sequel though is it ? It's a game in it's own right. That would be like suggestion "Battle Field 2" isn't as good as "Wolfenstein 3D" !! :D
