Going away for Christmas, is it weird?

I'm half thinking of going away at christmas, because all sub-categories of family want to do their own thing, with their own families this year. But the idea of going away at christmas, with it cold and dark, doesn't seem very normal!

Have you gone away at Christmas, and where have you gone?

I guess going abroad makes sense. Just domestically it doesn't make so much sense, it's like dark at 6pm, so you got to linger in a hotel room from 6pm and miss going out. Essentially you get less value for your money holidaying this time of year.(domestically) Unless you like pubbing in new areas.
