Well I've finally had enough of waiting 10 seconds for the cursor to catch up with what I'm typing in emails and texts, so I figured I'd downgrade my 3G back to OS3.1.

I used the CNet guide and the whole process took about 15 minutes.

It does seem smoother for typing texts and emails etc. but while it's smoother, the animations etc. feel like they take longer and Safari seems pretty slow to load pages. I also don't have a 3.0 backup any more so can't restore any of my settings/apps.

Interesting though it was, I think I'm going to go back to 4.0.2, as the performance hike isn't really big enough to go through the hassle of reinstalling all my apps and email settings.

I've now gone back to 4.0 and having done an A/B comparison within an hour, the speed differences aren't worth it to be honest.

If you do want to try this, make sure you backup first, then if you don't like 3.1 you can enter restore mode, go back to 4.0 and syn all your old stuff back.
