Going crazy trying to create a simple PHPTAL theme

I'm going insane at the moment.

my club currently has a website at http://playlacrosse.co.uk/

I am trying to recreate this using Drupal as the content management system - so members of the commitee can add news etc..

Drupal usus PHPTemplate by default for its templates. I have no knowledge of php but have been trying to follow the guide here to turn the old site into usable theme in Drupal.

As you see at http://www.eastcoastlacrosse.co.uk/playlacrosse/ it hasn't work well.

I have posted on the Drupal forums but haven't recieved any usable responses.

Can anyone here help at all please?

meh - my head hurts.

I choose Drupal as read it came first in some awards somewhere, but It has been hard going. The thing is I have most the funtionality I want. I just need to theme it now.

What is modex like for things like adding news content, image slide shows, videos etc..
