currenty using : OCZ PC2-6400 Dual Channel DDR2 800MHz 2GB RAM PC Memory Kit 4-4-4-15 - OCZ2P800R22GK (2x1gb)

i want to go 4gb now, should i buy the same kit and have 4 sticks of ram or sell these and get a 2x2gb kit?

using vista 64bit.

Less sticks of memory will be better for stability as the memory controller won't have as much work to do from what I can gather.

I'm running 4 * 1GB sticks and its fine, but I bet they won't clock as well as 2 * 2GB.

But surely the timings on the 4x1gb sticks are much better? Therefore they can be overclocked more? The only issue i can see is in regards to bandwidth due to all 4 slots being used.

In the past, yeah the 4x1gb had better timings...but newer 2x2gb kits are able to do some pretty tight timings. Specifically the OCZ ReaperX kits....I am willing the bet the 2x2gb Ballistix will be good clockers as well but I haven't seen any reviews yet.
