Hi I have narrowed down my tv choices Samsung UE32J6300 (32") and Samsung UE40JU6400 (40") but before I buy either one I have a strange concern about the size differences!

I watch a range of tv series and films and even animation anything from 480p,720p down to 1080p but mainly 480/720p/Standard definition content. Now on a 32inch its so small everything looks great even a 30 year old film but how will standard definition material and 480p/720p look on a 40" 4K panel?

Will it bring out the sources poor quality traits ?

I also watch it 2-3 metres away and usually in the dark

Your about my distance away ... using a 39" panny lcd ... I don't get problems with standard def ... I want to go 4k 40" panny ....cant decide yet tho

thanks yeah I hear its not too bad it should not too bad when viewed from 2-3 meters away, oddly 40" is not recommended for someone watching from 2-3 metres away according to this chart anyhow:

But I have to admit while a 32inch is nice it is too small to enjoy 1080p HD films, I am currently considering the Samsung UE40JU6400, its about 550-650 from richersounds/JL, if you are considering the panny lcd its worth going instore and checking out the contrast, blacks and colours and viewing angles I found the above TV to be closer looking to the 1K+ panel TVs.

Will be netflixs/streaming 4K, I hear there is bugger all difference though between the house of lies 4k and 1080p well not worth mentioning or noticing wise, cant recall the review link but they did a comparison.... 4k was better but not by much and only in now and then scenes.

Tbh I am not too concerned with 4K for now it may take off when 4k blurays release this xmas or it may not, the main thing is picking a decent TV with good contrast, colours, blacks and viewing angles that on its own is a mission ! when I was in currys so many choices but so many had poor quality panels only the £300-400 sony W706 range and Samsung UE6300 £400+ range had decent panels. The TVs like JU6400 and above £600-700+ were better though, also these 4K tvs are usually built in with netflix apps so 4K will be available as long as you got a decent internet connection.

Really though the jury is still out on 4K, but imo it will become the norm while tech like LCD, plasma, OLED, 3D and Curve will fade away as one off fads, OLED is too pricey doubt it ever takes off.

Yeah totally agree 1080p and good quality screens are more important for now, we want the best PQ after all, the only thing is the cost of a decent TV is still looking roughly £400-500 if your looking at high end 1080p 32" and 40"+ panels, and the Samsung 40" UE40JU6400 @ £550-600 then makes it a mute point and has 4K + 6 year warranty chucked in.

Even if 4K is a fad you still get one of the best VA panels for richer colours, blacks and viewing angles for 480, 720 or 1080p in the UE40JU6400.

First I have heard of it but it looks an older model says it came out sep 2014, where as the JU model came out 2015 march I think.

These panels are tricky to predict how they look in real life I am glad the UE40JU6400 ticked everything on my check list regardless of 4K or not, I just got john lewis to price match it to £550 using superfi as a comparison, but richer sounds have a 50 quid off coupon making it also 550 but with 6 year warranty.
