2x 6950 (flashed to 6970) or 6990

I'm expected a windfall from work soon. And naturally being the hardware enthusiast that I am, looking to change my GPU.

At present I have a HIS 4870X2, bought 2nd hand Sept 2010. I did have an XFX 4870X2 for 18mths til it died on me after rigorous use and it was watercooled for this amount of time.

So now, I am wondering which is the best bet: 2x 6950s flashed to 6970 or one 6990. It is my understanding that the 6990 contains two 6590 gpus, right?

I have enjoyed using a dual GPU card since I always went for the lower to mid-range GPUs back in the day (my last cards before the 4870X2 were 2x HD 2600XTs).

I think the 6990 would be more than ideal for the fact that it is a dual gpu card and it's pretty much future proof. And I don't think I am that confident with flashing the 6950s to 6970 mode.

But, what do you guys recommend? The money I will be getting will be enough for 2 6990s let alone 1. lol. But I am not going for serious overkill here. Plus, the rest of the money can go into a new PSU as I know my current 700W won't cut it lol.

Thanks for your input :)

PS before anyone asks, no I don't want nVidia for the following reasons:

a) I had a bad experience with an nVidia card
b) I am an ATI/AMD GPU fanboi :D

Ah well, if that's the case, then maybe I should just get the 6990 :) Seems like you made my mind up dude. Thanks :D
