Hi.
This is a bit of an odd question.
10 years ago I bought a gaming monitor for £500 (ROG Swift PG278Q) . It was pretty good (not amazing) and sadly it's just packed up.
I am on a strict budget now as I am caring for a family member and it's a full time job (15hrs a day+) and unable to work but gaming (for an hour a day) is the only thing keeping me going most days.

My question is this; as the monitor/technology is 10 years old will I be able to get something similar on quality for a lower price? I don't think I'm allowed to post links but I have put the specs Below but it doesn't tell you that much.
I'm not after 4k and quite happy with 2k.

Im not really asking for recommendations (unless you have an idea of one that meets the same specs etc so Ty if you do ) . I am more wondering if it's possible to get the same quality with the same features (g-sync, 144hz, visual quality etc) for £200 ISH.
Thank you for any help/advice.

ROG Swift PG278Q (extended spec list)

  • Display: 27-inch (16:9) wide screen
  • Resolution: 2560 × 1440 WQHD with 1ms response rate.
  • 144Hz max refresh rate for fast gaming.

  • Connectivity: DisplayPort, USB 3.0 ports (upstream x 1, downstream × 2)
  • Ergonomic Tilt (+20° ~ -5°), swivel (+60° ~ -60°), pivot (90° clockwise), height adjustment (0 ~ 120mm)
  • VESA wall mountable (100 × 100mm)
  • Crisp 27-inch, 2560 x 1440 visuals combined with fast 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, made smooth by NVIDIA®G-SYNC™ technology

Ips panels seem to be the best all rounders apart from oled but your talking big money.

Around £200 and gsync this is what I would be looking at something like thisbelow , Rtings has it scored at 8 out of 10 which is pretty good for that price range .

Def worth checking if it's the external power pack rather than the monitor itself (if it seems to be a power issue at least, not turning on etc). Notorious for it, but you prob know that.
Sorry for V late reply. Yep, sadly not the external power supply. The monitor still 'works' but Major problems with the panel/screen. I recently packed it away while we were decorating and it was dropped while getting it out. It worked for a day or two although dim. Since then it's just packed up sadly. Thank you though!

First off sorry for the late reply. My Aunt (who im caring for) has had a rough week so i haven't had chance to check up on the post. thank you for the two suggestions! I will look them up now. I've always been told though IPS panels have image burn issues. As i mostly play RPGS like Skyrim, Baldersgate 3 (etc) would the U.I cause image burn? I had a plasma TV A while back and had the GTA5 Radar image burnt into it for AGES lol

Hope your aunt gets better.

As @Mercurial stated ips panels don't usually suffer from image burn it's oled or plasma TV's back in the day .

Nice find by @JediFragger at £170 the LG is a solid option for a budget monitor which also has Gsync.

Your original monitor was a tn panel which are not common anymore .

here you go, same size, same res ,but IPS, IPS colours will blow you away if you are not used to them, I went to IPS not too long ago, and I'm amazed, it feels like I'm seeing things as the creators meant it to be seen! g-sync compatible ofc, and quite a bit less than £200, higher refresh rate,(180hz ) should you reduce settings, or get a better card in the future
My basket at OcUK:

Total: £169.99 (includes delivery: £0.00)

I bought the MSI version which i believe uses the same panel as an extra monitor for similar price (Was actually £10 cheaper but this wasnt available) and its a great monitor.
