As the title suggests , ive been offered a 6950 this is from a friend whos upgrading and offering me the card 2nd hand. Im wondering if its worth me doing this as im not sure its that much of an upgrade.

My 2 concerns and possible reasons for doing it are.

1. It might be one of the unlockable ones

2. I wanted to upgrade my card for the upcoming onslaught of games coming out (BF3, MW3, D3, SWTOR, Dota2) etc etc

If the card isnt unlockable and is just a 2gb 6950 what if any performance am i likely to see ?

I know i can get 80+ for my current card so if the new ones costing me 140ish is it worth it ?

Thanks

i had a 5850 and went to a 6950 2gb (unlockable) and i flashed it to a 6970 and then i put it back down to a 6950 as it was only a few extra fps (5-10) wasnt worth it.

It will be a good upgrade and your more furture safe for another good 2yrs..

Not worth it.

Assuming you get £80 for the 5850 after selling it minus the postage, paying additional £60 for a 6950 2GB means that you are pretty much paying 75% extra, for 10-15% extra speed...so it's hardly good value.

Wait for next gen £200 range card...that's what I'm doing.

As above not really worth it. I'm waiting to either pick up a cheap second 5850 (as in cheaper than they are going for now) or jump a gen or 2 and waiting on the £200 mark 7 series (or nvidea equivalent)

Ditto the above.:(

Can't say that looks very appealing, not when coming from a 5850, which in particular when overclocked will easily deliver high end performance.

Yeah the difference is not that great is it. I mean if you came from a lower card then the 6950 for sure. That in mind the 6950 is a better card, but not for the money. I would hold fire for a bit
