...as much as i enjoy this game and want to buy it i almost cant justify to myself, basically cos im rubbish at it :o , and i dont seem to be able to improve at all.

think the best time ive ever had is in the mid 1:36s on blackwood in the xf gti :o and am in no way competitive with other racers....bar other noobs

basically i guess im after help justifying spending money that could be spent on booze or tips for improving...i use an xbox360 controller btw

This is most likely your problem. This isn't an arcade racer, and you'll find using a wheel to be far better.

But if you're not that serious about playing it and don't want to shell out for a wheel, then there's little point really in shelling out for the game.

Having said that there are some players who are quick with a mouse and keyboard setup, but you'll most likely find playing using a joypad to be a frustrating experience against racers using a wheel and pedals setup.

Get a wheel mate, makes a HUGE difference, seriously. If you can borrow one off someone you know to try it first?

Soem of the cars in the full game shoudl be driveable for you, although you will struggle with the high powered rear wheel drive cars. off the top of my head youll probably get away with:

-XF GTI
-UF1
-FXO
-RB4
-XF GTR
-UF GTR
-MRT5
-FXO GTR
-LX4 (maybe)

For the ones like the F1 cars you will need to get a wheel as throttle/steering control is essential. Ive had the game 5 months and still cant drive the F1 car properly.

Definately worth getting.

thanks, yeh i know ill have issues with RWD cars, its why i stick to the xf gti hehe, and nah, im the only one of my mates who plays this type of game, suppose i could be tempted to get a reasonable wheel.

would one of the more "budget" logitechs do? (ie not the MOMO hehe)

my definition of budget changes with what mood im in....currently the Logitech Formula Force Ex wheel is looking tempting price wise...im not all about savings but cant justify the price of the MOMO

get a wheel, get it, and be patient.

ive been practicing the FOX on Blackwood for ages, and now im getting quite consistently good times. i suck at EVERYTHING else though, need a lot of practice.

you can have some SERIOUSLY good fun on it though, races with 20 people odd, first corner is great fun, and there are very little wreckers, in fact i hardly ever see people who purposely crash into people (if ever)

if you play mid afternoon on the demo servers theres quite a few, whats amusing is the ones who try and ram you off on the straight only to fail miserably

The best way i found to get good control of a car was to abuse it. Take a rear wheel drive car and try to drift it, it lets you find otu where the limits of a car is. Obviously not with the formula cars though.

In the full game their are very few wreckers, so dont be worried about that. If your caught wrecking you risk losing your license, unless its part of a smash fest that everyones doing. You get people like me who are not fully clean racers, you do get nudged and hit, but usualy people will not purposefully spin you (unlike TOCA).

LFS is the only racing game i have played and have stuck with, it really is addictive.

hehe im not worried about dirty drivers, if i see the majority of people doing it unpunished ive been known to join in....i think ill buy the full license and if things really just get depressing ill fork out for a wheel at a later date
