Hey all,

Considering buying a secondary 17" Macbook Pro for myself, giving my existing one to the mrs as an early birthday present.

My dillemma is; Do I buy a glossy screen counterpart over the matte one I have at the moment?

I have no issues with the matte screen, and it's fine.. but I remember seeing a mates' glossy screen MBP in the recording studio and I can't help but sway for the glossy :o :(

Just a plea to the crew.. who has previous experience with a glossy MBP, and would you reconsider if you had the chance?

I prefer matt after having both a MacBook and a MacBook Pro. I suppose you could always buy a glossy and if you dont like it, return it within 14 days and get the matt one.

Probably not worth the hassle though. Glossy is a novelty thing that wore thin with me after prolonged use.

I'd go for the Glossy!

Got a MBP 17" at it makes everything look a lot better and sharper.

Its subjective though.

I always kinda like the look of it in the apple shop but i never miss it on my own macbook pro, also it's not wonderful for photo editing as the colours aren't so accurate visually...

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about.

I have always liked the glossy, but I am not sure if I can take the plunge as I will be keeping this next MBP for a while (mainly to use with Leopard) and I imagine it would drive me crazy if the novelty outweighed the practicality.

What about screen-markings? Anyone notice if their glossy is prone to scratching from the keyboard and screen bezels?

my gloss screen has finger marks all over it from fat oafs but once you turn it on you cant see any of them, its only when its unlight you can notice any marks.

Never seen a matte screen but love the gloss one :)

Personally I have always used matt, I feel the colours are that little bit more accurate. Whne I had a gloss mbp to use the 'novelty' wore off. but then again I have always been conservative in my choices :)

For some reason the screen on our MB does my eyes in, and that's glossy, I don't know if its related...

Think about where your going to be using your laptop too. If you work directly opposite bright light sources (ie. a window behind you) then I reckon gloss could get distracting. I've used my sister's glossy macbook screen indoors and found it to be far superior to my Powerbook 12" screen.

I got a gloss screen on my macbook; it doesn't bother me as long as its clean, god helps anyone who touches any of my screens!!! But I would perfer the matt screen; seems easiler to clean...
