Going from Nvidia to ATI

When I changed my card from an ATI X300 (!) to a 7800 GT, I had lots of crashing probs in games. I uninstalled with Catalyst uninstaller or whatever its called and used drivercleaner. In the end I had to do a fresh install of XP, and all was fine.

Now I'm thinking of selling the 7800 GT for an X1900XT and I'm wondering if I'm going to have the same problems again.

Do people generally do a clean install of XP or can you get away with just uninstalling the nvidia card/driver and putting the ATI stuff in?

cheers.

Nah a full reinstall's not needed, just remove the Nv drivers, and use driver cleaner etc... as you said above, should be fine, loads of ppl just do it that way without probs. :)

I went from an ATI 9600XT to a 6800le last year, I just used driver cleaner to remove the ATI drivers, restarted and installed the latest forceware drivers for the nvidia card. No problems.

I did a similar thing, going from an X800XT to a 7800GS, Drivercleaner worked wonders.

i have just upgraded from a 6800GT (AGP) to an 1800XT. used driver cleaner in safe mode, then installed ATI drivers job done.

after youve used driver cleaner, make sure you re install your motherboards latest chipset drivers. occasionally driver cleaner can dump stuff you dont want it to, especially on Nvidia based boards.

I cannot do that if I change graphics cards because when I tried loading into safe mode it showed all the files it was loading and as the screen went black as to load the windows XP loading screen it just restarts it wont boot in safe mode.

I also had the problem of not being able to install windows ME on my computer
AMD64 3500/7800GTX I was assuming the PCI-E card just couldnt do the 256 colors or 8bit kind of like how you cannot play some really old PC games with a faster system ?
