can you not disbale them in windows without editing the reg? I dont feel confident enough to try it that way, and I didnt want to pay for some 3rd party software. Unless thats the only way?

Start > Run > msconfig

Edit the things in the 'startup' tab there, then on the 'General' tab, click 'Selective startup'. I think that's what I did to disable some un-needed programs.

:edit:

Also check the 'services' tab for useless programs. :)

yer ive done that before.

Not touched the services tab though, thanks.

56 processes is absolutely fine, after my vista was fully configured and trimmed exactly how I require it I have 60-66 processes running.

Vista is just much more efficient with many processes over XP so runs just as fast if not faster than XP. Oh and native dual core support making use of it all :)

well it was questionable on xp whether the dual core optimisers and MS hotfixes to "improve" dual core performance as many people had problems whereas it's all out of the box for vista
