I moved to London the other day to start uni. Turns out I moved in about a week too early and there's hardly anyone in my flat. There is only one other guy who doesn't go out and is spending time with his parents as he's from overseas.

I've been out a few times in London area where I live (Camden/Islington), so I'm not a stranger to it but I'm just getting really bored waiting for people to turn up and freshers to start.

Should I ride it out or is it worth sucking it up and going out alone?

Anyone had experience?

Every single uni and students' union calls their first year students by that term; there's no getting away from it.

Hard to go out in London on your own. I do it regularly but took me a lot of courage to do so.

Just go to a museum, art gallery, coffee shop, gig, cinema, then find a pub afterwards and read, listen to music etc. Job done.

I work away alone quite a lot. Going out somewhere new is very hit and miss ime. If i was living there would just suck it up and get out. Worst case at least find places to avoid in future.

Cheers lads.

Just gonna suck it up and go out, I can always come back if its rubbish. There are loads of bars near where I live anyway

I live in Camden/Islington. Just go down to Camden town, hit a few bar/pubs, chat to people and get wasted :)

Ed: It's a bit late right now obviously. Perhaps tomorrow :D

I went out in London a few months back on my own, was staying in a hotel with work and got bored within an hour, went out and had to take the next day off work as I didn't get back to the hotel till 2pm the next day.

Some of the best nights of your life will be the spontaneous ones.

Definitely.
I was house and dog sitting for someone in a small village in Devon once and was absolutely bored out of my mind.
I had visions of the pub from an American werewolf in London, but thought sod it, I'll take a chance and see what's going on in the village on Friday night and ended up having a laugh and a half with the locals who were just happy to have someone new to talk to if anything :D

To give you an idea, the only part of the village that had streetlights was what passed for the high street, and that consisted of a few shops and 4 pubs within 20 seconds walk of each other.

Central London's a slightly different kettle of fish though, but still.

I used to live in a small town in North Devon, I know exactly how horrific it can be :D

I'm too old for spontaneous frivolity.

It reminded me of something I did when I was younger and even more stupid.

Top tip : do not miss your first day of your new job and call in sick (pretending to actually be sick when you're drunk) from a club.

Two days after you were due to start.

Welp.

when i traveled a lot for work i had to go out on my own a lot and venen though there was a language barrier i always had a good time, when ever i go out in London i have a good time, if you feel threatened just move onto another bar...keep you wits about you and dont get ****faced and you will be ok whatever city you are in.
