Going out in Brixton!

The day in question is next saturday, and I will be traveling back at around 5am from Brixton. Getting a bus back to Trafalgar square.

Still havent made up my mind if I feel safe doing this. Never been Brixton before!

If you do go, just remember to make a will and tell your family you love them very much.

I used to live not far from Brixton. It's fine. Just don't walk about at 5am on your own, down empty streets. As has been said, yes statistically it isn't the safest place in the UK, but statisitcally, if you're sensible enough, you're better off in Brixton than being a **** somewhere far less *dangerous*.

You should enjoy it. It's a great place.

Go out, have a good time and be vaguely sensible about what you do e.g. don't wander down dark alleyways, don't be unnecessarily obnoxious, be aware of your surroundings but don't spend every second looking around nervously etc and the chances are that nothing untoward will happen at all.

Good grief....what a lot of jessies!

I'm female and I feel fine in Brixton and I've been there pretty late at night. In fact you're safer in places like Brixton provided you're not a gang member (I'm assuming OP is not) than you are in places like Croydon or Brentwood where you can get gangs of youths specifically out to get ****ed and into a fight.

It is busy, it is buzzy.....that actually makes it safer later at night. Waiting for a bus at 5am there'll probably be groups of kids around but they'll be more interested in each other...the boys on the girls, the girls on the boys.

It's also getting more gentrified. There's some nice shops, Joy for instance. A really nice cinema too showing indie films. After work I often meet up with colleagues in the Satay Bar which does good food. We had a works Christmas dinner there a year ago.

don't get a night bus out of Brixton, please.....get a taxi, even out to the nearest safe place, like Clapham common.

I've lived in the area for six years and never had any trouble. Stick to the main roads, don't hold your phone out in front of you at 3am and stay with your mates.

Clapham is full of loud-mouthed morons in rugby shirts. I'd avoid it and Trafalgar Square, which usually has groups of idiots squaring up to each other.

Yeah but the destination he seemingly needs to get to is Trafalgar square...

Not getting a night bus at 5am in Brixton is probably a good call if the OP is by himself as he'll likely have to wait around for a while at that time... Addison Lee taxi would probably be a better bet.

I remember the troubles and riots in Brixton in the '80s. Its come a long way since back then and is positively gentrified now.

OP go and enjoy yourself, you'll be fine.

Get on the N3 at the bus stop across from Brixton Tube Station, looks to be a maximum of 15 minutes between them at that time of night (and mostly more frequent than that). The schedule might go a bit awry of course but for all the complaints London's transport system is actually fairly good.

Alternatively the Tube itself should be starting up by around 5:30 so could just hop on that if he's a bit later than expected.

Obviously if opethdisciple would feel more comfortable with taking a taxi then by all means do that but the likelihood of any problems occurring by taking a night bus isn't particularly high.

thank you, I used to work in Brixton, and would get the night bus back, it was a nightmare,

I love the place, great vibe, good pubs, but night busses are a no-go, these guys will steal your training shows then kick you to death
