Going SLI for the first time tomorrow!

So i am going SLI for the first time tomorrow. I will be running dual GTX 670's ( the MSI power editions). Is there anything i need to know?

I have just upgraded my case to a NZXT Phantom 630 for some good airflow (already dropped my single 670's load temps by nearly 10 degrees !) and i have also got a new Corsair AX860 to power things.

Any tips, tricks?

How do i overclock both cards. Does MSI afterburner let you tinker with each card individually?

Is it as simple as putting both cards in, attach an sli bridge, install drivers and away you go?

Ta

:)

Once installed and drivers loaded you will need to go into Nvidia settings and enable SLI as it defaults off when installed. Other than that that's about it.

Also remember that every time you install new drivers you'll have to re-enable SLI.

This and this.

I would strongly recommend benching one card before you install your new one. Then once SLI is up and running, bench again and ensure you are getting the best performance possible.

MSI AB allows you to tinker individually or tinker with one and auto tune the other with the same setting. I always chose the latter.

What mobo did you say you had?

One more thing. I am just about to install the second card. Do i need to uninstall the nvidia drivers that i already have installed for the single card or can i just install the 2nd card and not have to do anything with the drivers? ( they are both exactly the same card)

Make sure your Mobo supports sli!!!! I assumed mine would as I had previously xfired only to be disappointed!!!

My motherboard box has a big "SLI READY" Nvidia logo on it and came with an SLI bridge. Hopefully i will be ok!

Nvidia's current generation drivers are all the same - even if you stuck a 770 in there you wouldn't need to touch them.

Once they're in all you really need to do is switch up all your game settings :)

It is however worth a check in the manual, there are some motherboards that specify which PCIe slots to use and they may not be numbered 1 and 2.

Andi.

Well, all seems ok, i got 1762 in Heaven 4.0 (70.0fps) with a bit of an overlock (using the extreme 1080p settings that the heaven 4.0 thread uses)

The top card runs 9-10 degrees hotter than the bottom card, although that is the card i got today, and despite it being a better clocker, it does get hotter than the other one. I might therefore switch them about.

Top card got to 75 degrees. Bottom card got to 66 degrees. Is that normal, ok/safe temps for SLI?

Sounds ok. Use a side fan if you can to help keep temps low, and put a good quality intake fan in the front.

I have a side fan. I just upgraded to a NZXT Phantom 630. What i am unsure of is whether the side fan would be better as an exhaust or an intake.

Just reminded me I need to spin the side fan round on my 500r, comes default as an intake and it doesn't seem to be helping my GPU temp at all.
