Hi,

My setup before:

Phone line -> Router -> HTPC also swtich to PC and printer

New setup

Phone line -> router -> Gb Switch -> htpc also to another Gb switch to PC and printer.

So basically I bought another Gb switch to put in between the router so my internal LAN is GB through due to sharing of files etc.

However my internet speed has gone from about 7000 kb/sec to 1000 kb/s !!!

I just remove the Gb router and went straight to the router and went right back to 7000 kb/sec ???

Any reason why this might be?

What is the make and model of the Gigabit Switch? Is it managed? Can you adjust the port settings or both the router and switch or have any monitoring capability?

bad cable between router & switch?

i've got a cheapy (£25-30) belkin gigabit switch, has been perfect from day one

Check to make sure all the interfaces and connections are nailed to 100/1000mbps Full duplex, if you have a duplex mismatch (one end half the other end full) it will be a lot worse than it was before.
