hi there i think its time to upgrade my rig as ive been out of the loop for a couple of years, i am only wanting to spend around 400-500 pounds on it but i dont need a new case or psu, here are my specs:

ASUS p5q deluxe mother board
quad core q6600 at 3.2ghz
4gb of ocz ddr2 800mhz ram
2x powercolor 5850's

i can live with my 5850's for now as im waiting for the new cards to come out anyway. looking forward to your comments. plus i run my games at 1080p

what make + model PSU do you have (i assume its something decent to run crossfire 5850s but i just want to check)

the obvious choice for CPU + motherboard + RAM upgrade is i5 2500k + the £99.98 gigabyte Z68 motherboard + the cheapest 1600Mhz 8GB RAM.

do you also need a HDD and DVD drive (your old drives will be fine if they are SATA?
also, what cooler do you have, and do you still have the mounting bracket for socket 1156 or 1155?

I would wait for Bulldozer - its rumoured to be 2 days away.

I have a similar setup - q6600 @3.5 / 1 x 5850 / 64gb SSD / 2 x F1 500Gb RAID 0

I have been thinking of quad bd oc'd to 4.5ghz - the rumoured price of the bd quad is £95-£100 but we'll see soon. For around £200 you gain 1Ghz and the chance to unlock extra cores. Or if your into encoding etc the 8 core could be an option.

If BD is no good then 2500k is good but is overpriced at the moment so hopefully will drop down to £150 or lower.

the psu came with the case which is a antec p190, think its one 800watt and one 400watt. yeah ill be keeping my my hard drive maybe get a ssd and maybe a blu ray drive for when i get my 3d monitor.

I am in the same situation, and would listen to this guy.

Will be interesting to see what BD will bring. But my guess is that the 2500k will still be better overall.
