Hi all im totally new to all this but i am going to build me a gaming pc.
My budget is around £570 To fit the budget this is what i have come up with.

Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP3 - OEM
Abit IP35 Pro XE Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.50GHz (800FSB) - Retail
OCZ ModXStream Pro 500w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Modular Power Supply
Samsung SpinPoint F1 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
Coolermaster Elite 335 Case - Black (No PSU
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 X2(4GB)
Samsung SH-S223F/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
Akasa AK-191-BL Blue Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3 Pin

Just hits the budget.
Is this all compatible.I will be doing some OC with the E5200.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.I could stretch to £600 if a component was really worth it and make a big difference to the system.

Thanks all :)

Slightly over budget, but you've a better motherboard, more RAM, a better optical drive and a better PSU (very important).

With the right motherboard you could get the AMD X3 720 Black Edition for that budget, literally all other components can be kept the same.

I'm fighting the corner of the 720 at moment because a lot of people don't realise it's actually the best price-performance gaming CPU on the market right now. :)

Don't get me wrong I like both AMD and Intel, but we (especially gamers) buy on price and how it performs and hence the AMD 720 is brilliant.

I was just looking at the e5200 as ive heard its a reliable workhorse and nicely overclockable :) not really looked into AMD
edit : just looked and that cpu is like £50 dearer than the intel :(

@ icey thanks for the heads up ill defo consider it :)

im in the same boat as u bud, i really like the look of the abit board and fancy getting the 5200 as its a good price and looks like you could crank it up a bit! ive never built a pc though so i dont wana rush into anything

Its hard work all these decisions Dan .Well i know a few people who have got the E5200 up to 3.2ghz from stock due to its multiplier of 12.5.I heard that Abit had stopped their MOBO business so that has put me a bit uneasy about that Mobo.Hopefully some1 can clarify it for us beginners :)

Abit will soon cease to exist, so it would make RMA's pretty dificult, so I'd try and stay clear of the mobo's. If you can afford it, go for the P45, it's the replacement for the P35 and a stronger performer than the older boards.

The freezer 7 pro will come with thermal paste, so you don't have to worry about that.

Ah cheers for clearing that up ro55o.
A quick question on the gfx card the powercolor has dropped £20 from last night so for the same money i could now get the Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 "Toxic" 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail (11133-06-40)

The gpu is clocked 30mhz faster and the ram 400 mhz faster. Will this make much difference.

Thanks again people :)

very hard choices mate lol

i did look and found the abit site a while back, do you not think someone else will take over the firm? how long are their boards meant to be covered for anyway? the price of it on here at the moment is so tempting.

The powercolor is still the same price, £149.99. The toxic is sitting at £172.49. It does have a better cooler on it, so you could probably overclock it slightly more than the powercolor. If you're considering the toxic though, then the 1gb XFX 4870 is only £11.50 more, just to make matters worse :p

It's a good price if your on a budget. They're cheap because they have been replaced by the newer P45 and I'm pretty sure don't get made anymore, so it's basically whats left.

As for warranty, I've no idea the length they give you or how it would work once they go out of business. I'm sure if you phoned up OCUK they could enlighten you better than I can :p

I ll stick with the powercolour tops maybe even a 4850 :)
