Well, it’s that time…going to London tomorrow to donate my bone marrow.
I posted a thread a couple of months ago to let everyone know I had been selected to give bone marrow. On the 14th April I attended University College Hospital in London for a full MOT (medical) to see that I was fit enough to undergo the op.
Upon checking me over I was declared ‘fit as a butcher’s dog!!!!’ and was able to go ahead with the operation. He mentioned that the details he had about the recipient (i.e. recipients weight) indicated that this was a child of 6-8 years old which really brought home what I was about to do as my eldest daughter is 6 years old at the end of May. You never get to know anything else about the recipient unless they choose to disclose details.
So………….my itinerary for the next few days is thus:
Thursday – travel to London on the 11:30 virgin train from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston, check into hospital, and take in a show (got tickets booked for Mamma Mia)
Friday – Early start, as my Op is scheduled for 8am, and will be back on the ward by 9 – 9:30 ish padded up to avoid bruising. Spend the rest of the day full of drugs
Saturday – Check out and head home to be pampered.
Should be back online by Sunday as I am bound to miss everyone.!!
Cya then
