Going to dubai in 3 weeks. Ive never been before and im just wondering if i need to sort anything like a visa out, whats the score with e11forms and health insurance and lastly with regards to money shall i take all cash or little bit of cash and use my visa debit?

Make sure you have at least 6 months left on your Passport before it expires. Take some cash with you, if you need to withdraw more you can from there for a small charge.

European health forms won't help you much when you're not in Europe... health insurance is always a good idea when traveling. You don't need an advance visa, its always good to have some cash when traveling though you'll find a Halifax clarity card useful too.

Your passport will be stamped with a 30 day visa on arrival. An additional 30 days can be added for a fee.

A European Health Insurance Card (E111) isn't going to get you anywhere and there's no reciprocal healthcare agreement with the UK.

Make sure you have insurance cover for medical matters.

Take cash for taxis, though I hear the new Metro system is pretty good I expect there's lots of places that aren't on it.

Cheers guys. I read that i didnt need a visa but wanted to make 100% sure thats all. Ill sort health insurance out and ill take some cssh with me. Just didnt want to end up taking thousands in cash with me

OP what hotel will you be staying at? I'm looking to go soon too.

Given he didn't realise they had cash machines and thought his European health insurance card was relevant you might have more luck seeking hotel recommendations from literally anyone else :p

I'd agree, but surely he would have booked a hotel before he went.

...for what? Did you think they didn't have any bank machines or electronic payment systems?

Nah I thought Dubai was like outer Mongolia tbh dude..

In reality, I didn't want to get stuck paying a fortune to get cash out at a cash point machine. So thought id come here to ask as its obvious people have been there recently. Theres me thinking forums are a place of discussion, questions and advice.. my bad.

If you have a British passport you gain visa on entry.

Health insurance is not necessary as you will have access to public hospitals should you require anything (Rashidiya Hospital for example, there's about 12 large public hospitals, and about 40 minor ones).

Don't act like a prat, don't be drunk in public, don't hit on local women, and be respectful. Swearing is a criminal offense so watch what you say as well.

Apart from that, have a good time. Don't use your visa there as it will be expensive. Convert some cash and use what you need.

I lived in Dubai for 6 years and returned last month to the UK so if you need tips or advice on where to go and what to do, let me know.

You wont pay a fee for withdrawing cash there. They have regular free ATM's. Just make sure that you use an issuer here which doesn't charge for forex (obviously). I didn't take any cash at all, i just withdrew it as and when i needed it. Taking actual cash with you to a foreign destination is something which people need to just forget, its a relic.

Not mentioned in this thread, but it's going to be HOT there, expect temperatures of 40c.

It's the only thing that's put me off visiting in 3 weeks time.

You just need to remember that the people of Dubai don't like The Flintstones but the people of Abu Dhabi do.
