Hi,

I am going to Egypt - taba to be precise next weekend..

anyone been?

do i need vaccinations?

please advise

cheers

You'll probably live with just yellow fever, will be hard to get good travel insurance unless you have what that company decides is necessary, but to be honest if you don't drink from the nile, run about in the buff in long grass and eat dead rats, along with get bitten by ravid mongrels, you should survive.

lol

are you saying i dont need any then?

i cant remember and cannot work it out from the guides

thanks

im sure i heard somewhere that you need to wash hands after handling money there as its so dirty?

i went to luxor, i think the injections you have depends on where your going, but i had to have my injections at least 2 weeks before going, or it would be pointless having em apparently.

thanks i called nhs direct and got all the necessary info...

I basically need a hep a and typhoid booster as I've had the rest 2 years ago :)

cheers peeps..

would like to hear about anyone who has been there and what they thought?

That's the first time I've ever heard of vaccinations when going to the Sinai Peninsula. I've been to Sharm twice, and didn't need to get anything at all.

Taba- Went a few years back and did my PADI Open Water diving qualification there.

Nothing really to do in Taba itself, there is no real place to go for an evening stroll say. Plenty of excursions to do through the tour companies e.g. Trips to Petra, quad bike safari in the desert, pyramids etc.

Just take plenty of books and something to keep you amused as if you don't have any activities planned you will get bored.

Which hotel? I stayed in the Marriot. Place itself was spotless but food was quite dull.

Went to Iberotel Hotel in Marsa Alam Christmas before last, its literally in the middle of no where.

Staff couldnt have been anymore friendlier and the hotel was spotless.

We were warned about the local shopkeepers who prey on "johnny foreigner" and we did get stuck in a perfume shop for about an hour! Its a bit intimidating when they let you in and shut the door behind you but its just for the air condioning.

They made us some hot blackcurrent drink stuff (which tasted like lemsip). Felt wrong not to drink it though. Although we tried to tell him "we'd come back tomorrow" he wasnt having any of it and we ended up buying some "smellies" just cos we'd had enough and i reckon he wouldve had us in there 'til midnight! (Needless to say we didnt go back!):p

The only thing we were unsure about before we went was whether we had to get a visa in the UK, or when we got there. We ended up getting one at the airport (their end) for about a tenner iirc.

The money (notes) look and feel filthy so as others have said be careful about hygeine etc.

Oh and we didnt have any jabs or anything before we went.

Cant speak for where your going but where we went it was really nice for a quiet/chilled out xmas break. The views were stunning and although we didnt scuba dive the sea was crystal clear and the fish and sea life were frankly amazing!

The flight home took us 6 hours so take summit to entertain yourself!

Have a great time!

Enjoy mate, marriot is a lovely hotel but food in the restaurant was a bit boring.

A week is a bit short to do a padi qualification so make sure you wander up to the jetty at the hyatt to do some snorkelling. Much better reef than in front of the marriot

People who went said that it wasnt really worth it as theyre all really commercialised now, like you can stand in McDonalds and see the pyramids apparantly.

I was happy chilling on the beach and snorkelling.

I was lucky enough to meet a big group of people my age, which was a bonus, as i reckon i could have got a little bit bored at times, but thats just me being a kid :p
