going to install windows 8

bold move sir

general opinion from those using 8 is that they mostly get used to Metro, so will advise against installing a start menu program. of course some peeps disagree. I'd say at least try it "out of the box" and let us know what you think.

Non, It doesn't need any tweaks.
And certainly not for the first two weeks, you need to give metro a good try and not just install one of the start buttons from the off.
You can read the other thread, but lots of people say they hated then once they actually used it for a few days liked it.

That's a good point actually, just make sure your default programs for things like photos are the desktop variant and not metro if you're on a desktop. You get the choice when you first open a particular file type.

8start.

thats it.

I would not use Start8,I know one guy that installed it and it messed up his PC(was posted in Anandtech forums),better off getting use to Win+X menu and adding your own stuff to it,

I use that and paid for Decor8(only £2.95),plus OblyTile ,http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/customize-win8-metro-tiles/

Metro is actually decent when you get used to it, had it for two weeks at work.

I found ie10 to be slow, but the 8 metro version of Chrome to be lightning fast.

Clean install. Do not go down the upgrade path.

Don't worry about tweaks until you try it. Get your head around the tiled start screen for a week first. Once you get used to it, is it quite good.

It is encouraging to see so many members on here advising the OP to give the "out of the box" set-up a try first, and to at least give it a chance before installing some sort of 'start menu' program.

It is not actually as bad as it first appears, and is certainly not worth dismissing out of hand, without giving it a trial run first!

ok i have installed it and i like it. i am clicking around like a lunatic and finding everything very well.

no driver issues.
