Going to hopefully take a look at a couple of Civic Type R's over the next week or so.

Is there anything that I particularly need to look out for?

Ones I'm looking at are 2004 face lift models.

air con?!

wouldnt you just get it removed anyway? not sure why so many ppl would want this given it would only be in use for about 2 months of the year, wgilst stealing 4-5bhp and adding about 20kg or something?!

Only in use for 2 months of the year? My aircon is NEVER off.

As for sapping 4-5bhp, I'd be more concerned about it sucking what pathetic torque the vtec has ;)

Errrrr I have mine on for about 8-10 months of the year? Ideal for clearing misty windows in winter too.

Rather that than driving down the motorway bursting your eardrums due to having the windows open in an attempt to cool down.

I wouldn't buy a car without it again personally, unless it was a track toy.

really? never heard of turning your fans on cold, but turning AC off? it feeds the cool air in quite nicely?

or wind deflectors?

ive had ac on my last 2 cars (4-5 years) and i cant think of a single scenario where ive turned AC on, except to stop the compressor from clogging up?

I leave mine on, why bother faffing around turning it on or off, when I can just let the climate control decide if its needed or not. When the outside air gets too cold (around 4ºc) the compressor is disabled anyway.

This can only be spoken by someone who's never had or doesn't understand how to use AC.

AC isn't just beneficial when it's hot, it demists cars much quicker than regular heaters and basically acts as a climate control, so you don't just use it in hot weather if you don't mind the extra dribble of fuel it uses

think back to the proper original civic r... did that thing even have wind down windows? the type rs were meant to be hardcore and now they have luxuries, hence i can imagine proper type r people thinking the newer stuff is limp

The original Civic-R (EK9, just to clarify) was fully loaded with AC, elec windows, mirrors, locking etc.. just like the old EG6 SiR's had. The only EK9 which was really basic was the 'race base', intended to be turned into a race car hence it came with naff all spec, not even the Recaro's.

really? i thought it was mitsubishi and their lancers that did the plush one (gsr) and then the basic one (RS) etc

either way, id have AC everytime, its priceless in nice weather like this

correct, but AC was still standard on the RS Lancer/Mirage models, was a delete option I think, everything else could be added back as an option but most are horrible spec.
