Hi there,

I am off to look at two cars today:

Ford Fiesta Zetec
1999 T Reg
1.2L
Price - £2600
Insurance - £2135

Renault Clio RT
2000 W Reg
1.2L
Price - £3400
Insurance - £2280

I saw them both yesterday when on a mass search for cars around liverpool, but it started to snow and we had looked at loads, so I am going back today to have a closer look at these two.

Does anyone have any advice or experience of either cars?

Cheers

They are with tescos who at the moment seem to be the cheapest, I have tried atleast 17 other insurers, these beleive it or not are the cheapest quotes, they are 3rd party ft and they even include a 20% discount for pass plus.

17 year old male living in a part of liverpool that is usually on fire....not good.

Edit liverpool lad, im just on the boundry between kenny and west derby, comes under an L12 post code.

try confused.com :)

I gave that ago as one of my first ones, didnt throw up anything special for me though. The tescos was the cheapest on there, even without the pass plus discount.

So the quotes above are 20% less than the best confused.com can provide and they are still pretty high.

CIS were cheap for me when I started driving, tried them?

Thats one I missed, I'll get right on it

Just tried something different, just tired puting my dad down as the policy holder and me as a named driver........£980!!

Problem there is though that I am obviously not building up any no claims during that time.

Are there any insurers that allow you build up a no claims discount whilst being a named driver?

Cheers

I tried adding my dad to my policy and it went up by about £30, will try adding my mum aswell or on her own and see what that does. Might need to shop around a bit to get the money off but they both have 5 years no claims and have driven for donkeys years so if you could get that discount then there must be something similar out there for me?

Who was that with?

Ok then, I might forget about my dad taking out the policy. Because at the end of the day in 4years time when I come out of uni, get a job and want a new car, something a bit more special I am going to need the 4 years no claims to get it.

48%?? How did you get that? Surley it wasnt for pass plus alone?

I will have to shop around for someone offering 30% I think. The problem is that many dont issue the pass plus bonus on their website, they make you pay the full amount and then then will give you say 20 or 30% back after you take out the policy and produce the certificate.

Time to start making some phone calls to see what sort of discounts they wil give off their website prices for pass plus I think.

The ones in my original post included a 20% pass plus discount.

They were actually third party fire and theft quotes.

Its got electric windows, sunroof, power steering, abs, after market cd player and the dealer claimed on the phone this morning remote locking, but I dont know this last one to be true.
