Going to overclock my system...

Hi Guys,

Going to overclock my system at the weekend - need a few pointers....

What's the best cooling system for my CPU, I've heard a lot about the 'zalman' cooling stuff, done a search and there seems to be a lot of different products - which is 'THE' one to have?

Also, my cpu will be caked in Intel's stock cooling contact - what can I use to remove it so I can apply ArcticICE for when I attach the Zalman?

Does the North & South Bridge have to have it's own cooling - mine have heatsinks on them already - should I attach a small fan?

With my set-up, what can I reasonably expect to achieve?

Happy New Year to you all!

Generally the Tuniq Tower and Thermalright Ultra-120 are known for great cooling, as are the Scythe range. You can't go too far wrong with either of their products - there are many to choose from :)

You can just use kitchen roll/paper towel to remove the old Intel thermal paste, it will just wipe off.

A silent 80 or 92mm side case fan is a good idea for northbridge/memory/general motherboard cooling, I find.

Might want to read the forum rules on signatures by the way - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/faq.php?faq=vb_board_usage#faq_vb_memberlist_how.

Let us know how you get on :)

i've got a zalman cnps9500 and it's pretty good, expensive though got it from OCUK and it's £30 odd, its ok knocked my idle temps dpwn from around 45oC to 30-32oC but i'm only running an old intel p4 2.8 @ 3.2.

also i removed my NB heatsink and got a better passive one but personally i would not go for one with a fan, my pc's already got enough of them making noise

i got this one but its pretty wide only just fitted my board

when i replaced my stock heatsink and fan i used

did the job well and you get loads in the bottles, just put a bit on CPU and left it for a few mins; came right off.

a lot of people seem to recomend the articnfrezer 7 pro but i couldn't tell you what it like
