Death Star or Mount Doom, it depends on the day.
As the title say's I have x2 twin frozr msi 5850's in xfire. I want to upgrade. I was thinking a single 670gtx. Any recomendations?

Simply ridiculous brand awareness premium from Nvidia imho.:(

Happy New Year greg.:)

Agreed this gen Tommy. Lower prices and I can recommend them and argue with all the fanboys but that 7950 is just too good a price.

Happy New Year to you Tommy :)

Ohh and Tones....Meh!!! :D

I wanted the option for physics to be honest. Plus it seems that nvidia have more stable drivers. I want a good jump in performance from the 5850's in xfire too.

Yes greg, 100% with that, even a couple of quid extra would mean get what you want, but it's far, far too much of a premium this gen.

I realise Nvidia have a bigger market share, but AMD must be eating into the higher end side of things(78+) this time round.

The nature of gfx cards also tends to keep customers too(happy ones anyway), so that's also lost future sales for Nvidia.

If you mean PhysX, I am a fan of it also. We buy top end cards to get the best graphical detail and PhysX adds that to some games (not many it has to be said).

The trouble is the premium price you pay for PhysX. If you feel it is warranted, then go for the 670. We can offer opinions but it is your money and I am sure you will choose what suits you best.

Its all well and good showing me your scary face, but, you try playing the latest titles in xfire. It just doesn't work. And yes I do have the latest beta drivers.

^
I have CF7970s and i don't play any games with CF enabled anymore...
The in game performance is terrible, i'd only ever buy 2 cards for aesthetics now...not for gaming.

That wasn't my scary face. :D

What games are you having trouble with?

As an 5850 user you'd be better off with 12.10 WHQL drivers + 12.11 cap 2 imo.

Ha ha ha, I have the beta 12.1 drivers as released on the AMD website. Max Payne 3, Far Cry 3 plus mega glitchyness on many other games e.g. dead island and so on...

I am trying to find a comparison chart but can't find one anywhere, even on AandTech Bench as they dont have CF benches for the latest cards.

I take it you mean the 12.11 beta?

Seems like they work fine for this 5850 xfire user.

Are you using the caps file from this page? AMD Catalyst 12.11 CAP2

As a last resort maybe you should try a complete driver sweep, followed by an install of the drivers, then the caps then a system restart.

If you want to try something to get it working, try this...

Download & install atiman.
http://www14.zippyshare.com/v/89696769/file.html

Run aitman. Select Automatic uninstall. Follow the process through on screen. Your pc will restart after its done. Once restarted atiman will continue the uninstall. When prompted press c to finish the final part of uninstall. DO NOT RESTART.

Install the latest drivers, before you restart and after you finished installing the new drivers, install the caps as well. Restart.

See if it works now. :)

Isn't it amazing, the 5850 has been out for a while now and it still does well in xfire compared to the latest gcards.

Let us know how you get on. :)

I think AMD have had pretty good scaling in all of their cards since the 5xxx series. I know they did when i had 6950xfire. Wouldn't swap my 7970 for 4x6950's though. ;)
