hi fellas.

i'm going to water cool the rig in my sig. looked before but never really got round to it.

i also want to wc my gpu. whats the good stuff atm, inc tubing etc.

had a quick trawl of other threads and come up with this.

XSPC 200 Bay Reservoir & Pump £25

tfc exchanger rad £60

EK hd full cover 3870 £50

EK supreme acetal £35

2 metre masterkleer 7/16 tubing £5

heard these fans are good and also quiet

Yate Loon D12SL-12 120mm Case Fan - 3 Pin £10

Zalman Anti-Corrosion Coolant - £16

not sure which gpu block to go for or if i will need any ram sinks for it £50

also not sure about barbs or anything else i've missed

any advise welcome.

regards

I may be selling my 3870XT to a friend, so I will have an EK full cover block available. Email in trust if you are interested.

what about barbs.

the res and gpu block have 1/4" threads so i guess i'll need 2 each for those.

the rad has 3/8" thread so i guess i just need to order 1/2" barbs with the correct thread diameter right?

all in all forgettin the different size threads i'm guessing i need 6 altogether.

if i've forgotten anything then let me know

not sure what size they are on the cpu block, it doesn't say. also i've decided to go with the gtz version. i like the idea of thumbscrews.

Hi,

Those are all good-ish components, with the except on the Swiftech GTX block which will corrode like anything unless you shell out extra for the copper top version. The GTZ that replaced it is OK, but I'd go for the EK Supreme Acetal myself, but don't forget the backplate.

The Bayres is OK, but there can be issues bleeding the loop with a Bayres. If you're not set on being able to see the fluid at the front of your PC, I would go with the Swiftech MicroRes as it's very quiet and, by the way it works, it essentially bleeds the loop for you. IF you're looking for a combo system then the XSPC DDC Pump top reservoir is brilliant coupled with a 10W Laing DDC pump. It's not a cheap combination, but it's very good indeed.

You don't say what case you have, but if it has two 120mm fans stacked next to each other, the Thermochill fan spacing is non-standard, so it generally doesn't fit. The TFC Xchanger 120.2 fits almost all cases that have 2 120mm fans next to each other, so it's much easier to fit in cases like the Lian Li A16 and the Akasa Omega. The Thermochill also uses the G3/8 thread, whereas everything else in the watercooling universe uses G1/4. For those two reasons, I'd go with the TFC radiator. It's 99% as good as the Thermochill.

You ask about barbs, but your choice of 7/16" tubing means you pretty much have to go 1/2" barbs. I like D-Tek myself as they have a really good swage on them that locks 7/16" tubing in place without a clamp.

The Masterkleer tubing is a classic, but it's getting pricey now and cheaper 7/16" tubing is available if you don't feel the need of the branding. There's nothing wrong with the Zalman fluid, but deionized water and 2-3 drops of Petras' Tech PTNuke will do as good a job.

If you can get a 2nd-hand full-cover block for the 3870 then great otherwise the Swiftech MCW60, D-Tek FuZion-Gfx or EK VGA-Supreme Acetal are all very good general VGA coolers. I don't bother to cool my RAM chips, but some folks like the psychological protection afforded by some stick-on RAMsinks.

I'm sure I've forgotten something, but that's my 2p worth anyway. Good luck!

That looks fine - put a wanted ad in MM for a water-cooling setup and someone will sell you most bits at a very decent discount and then you can pick up just the new bits you need. Lots of people upgrade their water cooling after 6-12 months and there is lots of very good stuff available second hand.

Fusion V2 or GTZ blocks are the ones to go for. And you dont wanna be spending £50 on a block for a old card like that. i would leave it out untill you can update a little or go universal.
