I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. It's my first time doing something like this. I will traveling down through Europe through numerous countries. I'm wondering what's the best way of dealing with money!

The cheapest way at the moment seems to use my debit card to with draw cash. Still though - ouch! Any secrets anyone can let me know of to save me paying a conversion fee and a handling fee and feeling like I'm getting ripped off?

They're not all countries that are using the Euro. Drawing out a larger amount of cash is cheaper but more unsafe to carry around and if I don't spend it all (!) then it's useless in the next country (say when I leave Denmark for example).

Cheers!

no fees credit card, post office do a good one.

Personally I wouldn't do Europe it's to expensive at the minute, I'd look to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam

You can still get cheap places in Europe quite easily depending on what kind of places you want to stay in.

Thailand can be horribly expensive if you're not careful.. Laos was impossible to spend money though :p

Musty Pie.. only going for a few weeks and it's meant to be a holiday from work ;)

Alex2001 - do you mean to the Post Office Travel Card? Looks better than my debit card! Load it in Euro's and I'll only be paying a fee for transactions in the none Euro contries for starters. Withdrawal fees are cheaper too! Ta :)

Tres - not spotted it, they are my bank.. will have a look though.

It's Europe... got some night trains booked a long the way. Should be a laugh. Stockholm down to Rome!

Cheers,
Michelle

Get a Nationwide account and use to pay for purchases and withdrawals which is nearly free. Nationwide have started charging for withdrawls abroad but only Visa's charge they have to pay which is 0.01p per £1? something along those lines, which is nothing compared to the charges from other banks. I used this for traveling along with a credit card, worked out perfect. I went round the world and used in Europe too.

Gone with the Post Office one (as I could just easily walk in and get it).

I'm curious now though as to how widely it'll be taken (over the counter and at ATMs). It's Visa Electron. Will have to keep credit card on stand by.

Places I'm going: Stockholm (Sweden), Copenhagen (Denmark), Berlin & Frankfurt (Germany), Luxembourg City (Luxembourg), Bern (Switzerland), and Rome (Italy).
