Hi everyone, so i got my system running as nicely as i could standard with my new gfx card and cooler so i began to overclock slowly. I;m starting to get nervous about pushing it up much more seems stable for now so i uess i'll continue.


So if any of you guys can see anything not right or bad let me know pleaseeee. I'm gona go for a bit more and see if i can maintain these nice low temps :) all your help is greatly appriciated
 
Are you stress testing as you're going up? Just upping the FSB until it fails to boot Windows increases you risk of corrupting your Windows installation.

yikes! i think i may have already messed it up my system tries to run chkdsk each time i restart :S but yeah im runing prime95 for around 35 mins each time i go up.... what else should i be doing?
 
Make sure your RAM isn't overclocked at the same time (unless you've pre-tested the RAM), otherwise you won't know if it's your RAM or CPU that's unstable.

ok i'll try, but i have never touched the ram (or does it come overcloacked?)
Also i restarted and its my older ide hdd that has become corrupt not my primary SATA drive, i can still use my main c: drive as usual but cant get into my older drives. :( all my music and games were on it
 
bah! had some real stability issues at the final speed so ive reset defaults and am going to start again, i think i need to reed some more... thanks for the help though m8
 
so let me try and get this right,

1- i need to underclock my ram

2- then start increasing my bus speed

but how do i make sure that im not going to corrupt anything else? ive read the guides but im still unsure what to do

Is that RAM 6400?

If so, you should put your RAM in a 1:1 ratio with your FSB. That way your CPU will top out way before your RAM will. E.g. RAM at stock = 400MHz, and if your FSB was at 400MHz you would have a very substantial CPU speed! (like 3.6GHz).

Set your Voltages to static values, rather then leaving them on auto. Specifically set your CPI VCore to about 1.3V

There are several ways to overclock, like finding the max FSB, or finding the max CPU. In your case if you put the memory on 1:1 with the FSB (i.e. underclocked if it is 6400 RAM) and slowly increase the FSB, the CPU speed will increase to. The best thing to do after each increase would be two run orthos for 30 mins. If there aren't any errors, then go back and increase the FSB as in the sticky.

Keep your temps under 60-70 Load, and don't panic ;)

No worries. Just keep in mind the sticky at the top of the forum, and locate the jumper for your reset CMOS (and use it if you have any problems - this resets the settings in the BIOS, see the motherboard's manual for more details)
 
yeah i just take out the mobo battery when it doesnt boot and that seems to reset the cmos (bad idea) idunno, also this sound dumb but how to i set my ram to 1:1 with my fsb?
 
Okay, you want to head over to the advanced page in your BIOS (you are an advanced user now ;) )

Set AI Tuning to manual.

The CPU Frequency is your FSB
The DRAM frequency is your memory speed. I believe it goes up with your FSB. I think it reads it from your 'CPU Frequency', i.e. your FSB, and works out that double 266 is approx 533 DDR, therefore ratio is 1:1 (if you get me). Leave it at DDR-533 for now.
