After loads of hours spent researching and trying to find the right card, i've decided to go with the

XFX GeForce GTX 275 XXX Edition 896MB GDDR3 Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

for £200

Everything was considered. 4870X2, 4890, 260 and the 275, but i've decided to be impulsive (or try) and order a card before midday, and this one is the one, i think.

What are your thoughts? I know the 275 is a 'pointless' card to some, but for someone who doesn't OC there GFX card i think its a better bet than a highly OC 260, and if i do want to have a play, then the XXX edition is a proven card to OC on.

All comments welcome.

Cheers.

You'd think the 4870x2 at £250 would be a no brainer? It'll destroy the GTX 275.

the 4970x2 was a 2ndhand card for £190, new at £240 is really pushing the limit i want to spend with new cards round the corner.

Changed my mind already and thinking:

Gainward GeForce GTX 260 Golden Sample "Core 216 55nm" 896MB GDDR3

Until around xmas and see what new cards are doing, in fact that probably is my best bet, but then for £25 more i could get a 4890, but drivers and noise are an issue...aggghhh!!!

It really is the smart choice isn't it?

another factor is that if i go ATI a full re-install is needed. :(

Why would and ATI card require a full reinstall?

I would say go for the 4890, £40 cheaper and the same performance, better with the Asus if you OC it.

Edit: Gah just noticed you ordered.

Well ATI drivers are a bit unstable to start with, having Nvidia prints all over the place isn't the best start in life for the card i'd imagine.

Went for the £140 260, don't really need anything more than that at 1050 res right now.

Should have got the 4890 :p

Im sure that card will be fine though.

There is no need to reinstall you just run drivercleaner first.

haha, stop it!

Noise and driver stability plus clean install swayed me in the end, the 4890 seems a cracking card and if i had a water cooling system i'd have probably went for that, in fact i would have.

I've switched from ATI to nvida countless times. All you do is go to the uninstall manager and uninstall.....then reboot and install new ones.

Just don't use driver cleaner or anything.

Anyway, a 55nm 260 for 140 is a great buy and offers quite impressive bang/buck. Good choice.
