Gold Memory problem

Lo all,

I'm suffering from some serious stability issues at the moment on WinXP Home SP2 with:

Athlon64 3500+
2GB (2x1GB) Corsair CMX1024-3500LLPRO
Asus A8V Delux mobo

I thought the issue might be memory related so I booted into DOS and tried to run Gold Memory. However, I get the error:

"Can't run CPU already in protected mode"

Anyone got any ideas how to get my CPU out of protected mode? Does this error seem to suggest a CPU error rather than RAM?

Have you tried Memtest86+?

I've just tired to run it and it says:
"you cannot run memtest86+ if the system already is in protected mode"

I did just get a BSOD with a 0x0000008E code which MS website tells me is a RAM issue.
