Goldring NS1000 issues

Am I safe to order a pair from SuperFi (through Play)?

I've been doing a lot of research to find the right pair but now, after reading this, I'm a little concerned about the build quality issues.

I'd rather get them from SuperFi direct.

Whether or not there are likely to be any issues, it's hard to say. If Goldring and Phitek have sorted out the problem, then all should be good, as long as these places no longer carry old stock.

Not many people have been reporting in this thread lately, who have bought recent pairs. It's hard to know what the current build quality is like, if nobody posts about their experiences.

I'd rather trust SuperFi direct, when it comes to returns, than dealing with Play, or through Play.

Plastic by my left earcup just snapped :(. Bloody annoying happening right at the start of work, I'll go mad without music. Bought from Play.com in July, do I have to return to Play or can I contact Goldring direct?

Can anyone recommend a good alternative anyway? I don't really need the ANR and I've found them pretty anaemic tbh, they lack punch somewhat. Or would a headphone amp make a big difference?

Play, Goldring will just tell you contact the retailer.

These new Head-Fi flavour of the month headphones from Panasonic, HTF600, are better than the NS1000's apparently, according to PapaLazaru.

For £35 or so, they look to be a steal.

Yeah, my NS1000s are snapping so I've ordered the Panasonic's to replace them (was only £29 so I won't lose much either way).

My NS1000 plastic has now broke on both sides! They are 11 months old (14th Dec 2010)
I have contacted play and they has told me to contact Goldring in regards to a replacement.
I have a sneaky feeling that they are both going to fob it off on to each other so that I will ultimately end up with no replacement.

To add insult to injury I have built a new pc and went crossfire in it, as a result my xonar D2 can't fit into the pci slot because of the 2 graphics card.
So I am going to buy the Xonar essence ST (what's the difference between the STX?) and I am in the market for a new set of cans for around the £60-100 mark.

Any suggestions???

ST = PCI

STX = PCI-Express

Ok Goldring have told me to contact play with regards to a warranty claim, from what people have been saying it seems like it could be a mission to get a replacement. In the mean time i have ordered the xonar essence stx and a pair of beyerdynamic dt770 pro 250ohms. If i ever do get a replacement from play at least i can sell them because i won't be going back to the ns1000 ever again.

Goldring replaced mine without too many issues. I got mine off of a 3rd party on Amazon, and spent a good two months in dispute with Goldring. When I contacted them, they 'recommended' I go through the retailer. I told them I'd already spent a while dealing with the retailer, who basically were being stubborn, and I'd reported them to Trading Standards, but I'd just like them replaced. Goldring got it sorted within a couple of days.

My new pair haven't had any problems yet *touch wood*. Last pair didn't have L&R labelled, and judging by the labelling on this pair, I was wearing them the wrong way around xD.
This pair: 1.8M Cable, L&R labelled.

Hmmmm.....very interesting, I fired off an email to play telling them what goldring told me but they still haven't replied back yet. I was going to call them but I thought it would be best to email them so I got proof that I contacted them before my warranty expired.
I will give it until monday to see if play will contact me back. If they don't I will go the route you went and see if goldring will give me a replacement.

Well, my NS1000's have given up the ghost today. The headband had snapped long ago and has been held with tape for well over a year now, but now they're completely dead.No sound at all. I've tested the wire with a meter, and all the wires are intact, so that leaves the headphones at fault. Shame really, as i love these headphones in the way they sound and fit, but i won't be buying any more of these. What would be a worthy replacement?

For which budget ? best bargain at the moment are probably AKG K550/551 £99 I have never had a set go speaker wise just the cracks I have a set here over 4 years old held by tape still going strong no driver issues.Tbh most budget headphones crack and break I have found just stay away from panasonic htf600 the build quality is horrendous mine snapped and one side stopped working they were only 2 months old.And the sound isn't as good as ns1000 you hear missing details and mids on the htf600 compared to the ns1000.Personally I'd take advantage of the current low price £63 on creative aurvana live 2 but then they are plasticy too and will probably break.

£50
M-Audio Studiophile Q40
Creative aurvana live

£63
Creative aurvana live 2

£99
Akg K550
Audio technica m50

£113-£130

Not much help to Lethagised - but just noticed that the NS1000s seem to have been relaunched and given a bit of a facelift.

They're now "Goldring NS1000 Expedition". Aside from the colour the main difference to the originals is that the come with an inline microphone for smartphone use. Wonder if that could be adapted for gaming?

This bit's added to the description on the RicherSounds website.

The addition of an in-line microphone and pause control enables you to take calls on your smartphone whilst wearing the headphones.
The Active Noise Reduction again comes into its own here, as it makes it much easier to hear the caller - even in busy environments.

Well mine lasted longer than some - but the headband cracked this evening.

9 years since I bought them (2nd hand), they've been well used and given me much pleasure. RIP.

I'm not having a good day really. Dinted car on a metal post and my polar heart rate monitor stopped working too. I think I need to not touch anything...
