Goldring NS1000 issues

Right side on mine finally cracked have had to put loads of tape on the headband now.

Dr150 and ns1000 both suffered the same fate will be looking at something different for my next headphones just cant be bothered anymore.

ANyone ever tried to make their own custom headband for headphones ?

Can't say I have, I don't imagine it'd be easy but then again I'm useless with that kind of thing anyway :D

If you want something rock solid then the Beyer DT770s are built like a flaming tank and the bits that commonly break in Goldrings are metal, I went down that route after the 2 faulty NS1000s and I don't regret it, although it does cost more admittedly.

Ah the plastic from what i have seen is the stuff that breaks ? they develop cracks after a while and seem to last around 2 years or so.

So beyer sell replacement entire headbands ?

They sell replacement everythings which make them an even better choice, the DT770s have been going for around a decade I believe, so well supported.

EDIT: What I meant was the parts that usually break in the Goldrings (I.E. the plastic hinges, casing etc) are metal on the Beyers.

Yes, my first pair of Goldring DR150 cracked and then snapped. The replacements seem like they are going the same way as well. Looks like I'll be sending them back as well soon.

There has to be a problem with all the mentions of cracking near the earcups. That's me done with Goldring now. No more chances.

Likewise, just noticed my DR150s are going as well... I think when they do eventually die I'll invest in a nice pair of Grado SR80is or Beyer's DT990s (I think, or the 880s I can't remember which is fully open), I'll have to audition both at some point in the future :D

Yea beyer do sell replacement parts for pretty much everything and aren't silly prices like sennheiser and they're £50-£100 just for a replacement headband

Does anyone know if you can RMA Goldring NS1000, with Play.com, when they start cracking? It's been more than 6 months since I purchased them.

Yes, I'd certainly try if I were you. There is no point waiting another 6 months, and find they break after the warranty is up.

You'll have even more of an issue with Play than usual if it's after 6 months rather than before because it's now down to you (the consumer) to prove that headphones were at fault and not mistreated... just point them to this thread :p

Mine have packed in. Completely dead in normal mode, but work fine with noise reduction on.

Will be taking a trip over brum in the next few days for a replacement.

Edit. Flat battery. :D <Me!

Bit of a disappointing update, but recently discovered that my NS1000's purchased from my local SuperFi have developed a crack on the right earpiece just below the metal band. I babied these things religiously over the 6months i've had them, never mistreated them, dropped, stretched or twisted them whatsoever. My cheap Sony MDRXD200's have taken a right beating over the last 4 years and still as strong as the day they were made. They sound crap compared to the NS1000's though.

Good news is, Goldring and SuperFi have addressed the issue and are swapping them out for new ones. It looks like it wasn't just a bad play batch, but more like a complete bad batch across all shops.

I really like the NS1000's, so will be putting some strong grey tape or grey shrink tubing on my new ones to give them a bit of extra strength.

Despite their flaws the ns1000 are awesome really for the money and btw many big name headphones develop cracks.

I like beyer dynamics metal build in the right places and completely swappable parts that are sold beyer will defo be my next headphone.

I agree with C64, after my NS1000s developed cracks and eventually snapped I decided to invest in a pair of Beyerdyanmic DT770s; best £150 I've ever spent on audio equipment, they're metal in all the places that matter so there shouldn't ever be an issue of them breaking and if anything wears out (padding on the earcups or headband) then it's easy enough to buy new pads. For the price you won't do better build quality and the sound is amazing if you're after their sound signature.

My NS1000s are still going strong. Had them since 2008 and I got them 2nd hand.

It's a shame they don't seem to make them like they used to...

Ive had mine (from play) about 11 months now, been absolutely flawless, seems i was lucky enough to avoid the bad batches.
