Yep, it's a lake in the middle of a housing estate.

Goldsworth park lake is a fairly small lake that was man made some time around the 70s for a large housing development in Woking. Being man made and surrounded by houses it still manages to retain a natural feel and the lake is actively managed and wildlife promote.

I live about 2 minutes from this lake, and cycle round it on the way to work every morning. Which is interesting because I get to see how it changes through the year, through all kinds of whether. However I always regretted not taking having my camera on the more interesting days. Then one day I said to myself - just go back and get it  - which is now my approach (if I can't predict the whether before hand and just take my camera in advance)

So I now present some recent shots of Il Lago Del Goldsworth Park, from late last year through to today (and perhaps beyond!)

Firstly, this is the first day I went back for my camera. I have already posted this in another thred:

Then shortly before christmas I decided to go for some long exposure shots around sunset, breaking out the 77mm LCW ND filter that I rarely get to use.
In this one I like the colour range but can't help but feel there is a subject missing

Yesterday was another misty morning so out came the camera. However they weren't as successful and mostly came out over exposed due to leaving the +ev on by mistake. I have recently upgraded to a 60D from a 30D and am not completely used to auto iso / the lcd screen yet so they looked ok on camera but the RAWs are very noisy and didn't get much worth looking at.
I did manage to get theses swans, but a little late for the perfect composition:

And today, it was properly foggy, plus I just aquired a new Sigma 17-70C lens, so I went for a few tree shots.
I decided to go for b & w as they were a bit murky otherwise, and have applied a light cross-processing.

5. ( I think I should have been standing a little higher to get the gap between the post and the 'jetty')

I think 5 is the strongest here, lovely processing that suits the scene well.

I agree about the post but you could just simply clone the top of post out to create a gap between the post and jetty.

This, I think number 5 is the best out of them all.

Really like the look of number 3 but it is missing something like you say, good effort though really want to get a ND filter and try some long exposure myself.

Thanks,

I think I'll give that a go, will have to sort the reflection at the same time though or risk confusion!

Yeah that's definitely the winner. Nice balance of foreground and background interest. You can wander around the photo without feeling distracted by any single item. Nice calming feel to it too :)

I like #4 but it feels wrong somehow, I think due to the crop/spacing of the swans.

#7 is nice and it reminds me of old Victorian postcard photos.

#3 is nice exposure wise, etc. It feels like a stock photo for a magazine, the space area for text, if you get what I mean.

#2 I think I like, but there is something that's wrong that I can't put my finger on. The boat, mist and birds are all great. I'm not sure if it's the background that bugs me or the space on the right.

All in all though, #5 is ace :)

Yes that's what I thought, I was fumbling with the lens (not like that ) and messed it up, but I still liked the effect

I hadn't seen it like that but I see what you mean.

I have a similar one which I would have preferred if it was taken with a longer lens, but I left it at home by mistake so had to settle for a nasty crop:

A lovely set, particularly like 3 and 5 really stands out for it's composition and bleak feel I also feel number 2 has a lot of potential. The set is also a great reminder that you don't need to go out into the middle of nowhere to get some very interesting landscape shots.

Jetty looks good.

have fished there in the past, for a lake in the middle of a housing estate it has some very nice scenic areas and some great fish.

thanks, wasn't expecting so many positive comments! I've often wondered what the purpose of the 'jetty' actually is. It's fenced on all four sides (well, a locked gate on the bank side) and there is another one at the opposite end of the lake, so it's a bit of a mystery.

It is popular with fishermans, but I can't comment on the quality of the fish :p, I've only tried fishing once but that landed me a lifetime ban from Pets at Home
