...and by beginner i mean someone who hasn't hit a single ball in his life :)

I've been looking about for a set of clubs to get me started, and looking at the approx price range of £200 i have set for myself, i've decided a set of Wilson clubs would be best?!?

I was looking at this set http://www.thesportdepot.co.uk/wilson-staff-complete-golf-p-51.html

Can anyone spec me a better set or give any opinions on the set i am looking at?

Cheers

The best idea before you buy is to go to one of the golf superstores like American Golf or Nevada Bob's and have a feel of the clubs in your price range. Some of the shops have an area where you can swing the clubs so you can get a feel of them in your hands, then select the one you felt more comfortable with to buy. Theres always a risk of buying online or without swinging the clubs that you will not feel right with them when you actually use them, i know i had this problem myself in the past.

Go down to your local driving range/club. See the Pro, talk to him, book some lessons, think about buying clubs if you actually lke the sport. You will also find that a lot of Pro-shops at courses & ranges have trade in sets from people who have just upgraded to the latest all singing all dancing models, so you may be getting something 2 or 3 years old but they will still be better than the usual 'beginner' set (trust me, i bought a beginner set like the one you have listed and have been replacing it club by club over the past few months!).

If you do want a 'new' set, have a look on fleabay for Wilson Fat Shafts, very good set for mid-high handicappers. You should also see if you know anyone into golf, more than likely if they have been playing a few years they will have a lot of extra clubs lying around (i've only been playing 9 months and already have a spare driver, 3 wood, SW, PW & putter), secreted away from her indoors! ;)

Like kefkef say's, buy yourself a 2nd hand set of irons and get some lessons booked.
The lessons will be 100x more valuable to your golf game than a new set of clubs.

My Dad started playing earlier this year. He's a penny pincher but has worked hard all his life so I treated him to some Taylor Made RAC OSII Irons.

Fantastic clubs, with retard proof uber oversized heads.

Took them up to the driving range and compared to my mates budget clubs, they blew them away.

I don't play golf and have never had lessons, but the consistency with distance and accuracy was fantastic. No nasty vibration up the shaft either. Beautiful.

American golf were doing the set for £200 at the time, got the second to last set as they sold so quickly.
